Sometimes i wonder if people understand they are sleeping in a truck? It’s not like you’re in an insulated house 300-500’ off the road...it’s a truck that you willingly parked in an active truck stop.

Even with the anti idling laws around the country just walk any truck stop parking lot to see how many trucks are idling either for comfort or just because they want to. A few APU's will not make the difference between sleeping or not as do the reefers or air compressor water separators going off during the night. Some drivers nose into a spot to protect their hoods and if a reefer to help with noise for other drivers. Seems like anyone complaining about noise in truck stops should be putting applications into Walmart or Wall Street for a 9-5 job with a suit and tie.

You rather me pull in next to you with the howling reefer in high range for 6 hours. It will ensure you will not hear APU's for two rows around.

Frankly I don't see the problem other than you subconsciously wishing you had one. Ive gotten close to parked trucks sleeping on APU's and they are hardly that loud at the store.

In my time we considered APU's too fancy, expensive and weight parasites back then. The industry was by and large too obstinate to consider the fuel savings off those things.

Some Apu's, just like some reefers, or some tractors are poorly maintained and loud as heck. Goes with the territory. Segregate them, oh pulleeasse.
When Idle Aire was in its heyday they couldn't stop guys from parking under those enormous overhead raceways with yellow elephant trunks hanging down, and used their Apu instead.
    Went broke trying.

And please make sure the exhaust is pointed at my sleeper. When the hell did THAT make it any safer to use one of them?

You're not in a beach front room at the Ritz Carlton, you're at a truck stop. Get use to it.

    Engine Idling: 10 hours per night= 10 galons of diesel x $3.00= $30 x 6 days a week $180.00 + 34 hours reset 34 galons x $3.00 = $102.00
    $180 + 102= $282 weekly on fuel + 94 hours idling the engine.
    Apu running: 2 galons per night $6.00 × 6 days $36.00 + 34 hours reset (7 galons)=$21.
    $36 + $21= $57.00 weekly + 0 hours engine wearing.
Do the mat in savings for the # of weeks you stay on the road.
Now deduct from your engine the number of hours that is not running everyday and the savings in oil consumption and extra miles that you gonna get from your engine before it needs an overhaul do to the savings in hours and wearing.
