APU's on trucks

    The reason I was hoping May would provide APUs was because I've been Hammered by Idle charges when I first started, yes they talked about it for about 5 minutes in orientation but it didn't register. My trainers didn't say anyting about it either. When I first got my old 1964 Pete (joke) the bunk heater didn't work so I would run the engine for a couple hrs a night to heat the cab, didn't know you had to clear it first with your D.M . Now I know. My D.M. isn't the wonderful D.M. some of you have, he has a cardiac if you call him on the phone. Got reimbursed for about half the charges but it took 3 to 4 weeks to get that. Now I really watch my idleing. People who know who my D.M. is say get another one, but at least I know where he's coming from and if I do ask for a change I could get a worse one. Think I'm just gonna buy a generator.

    Cops don't have anything better to do then pick on trk drivers.Why don't they go after the 4 wheelers,bet they're making more then the average trucker is.

    Mainly because the 4 wheeler MIGHT show up to fight the ticket.

    How many hours did you put in to get 39k? And how many days where you away from home for the year? I thought so. You where a road warrior and still got soft miles. My first year in trucking I made over 42k and that was back in 91. 105k miles is not good miles And if you don't care about dwell times at May truckings customers then you will do fine there. I however like to get loaded and unloaded or paid for my waiting time.

    Well then you did not drive on the dry side because 14 ft trls can't run coast to coast and I believe I did say dry frt? Why yes, yes I did

    And yes short runs on dry side. Here is just a few.

    Mty from Auburn Wa to Tumwater Wa pu cardboard 1hr load time take to Wauna OR drop trl wait 2 hrs for next DP pu at same plant and take to Halsey OR live unload 1hr waiting to go to dock 1/2 hr unload then 2 hr wait till next dp Load pu next day at 0900 in Portland going to Bend OR.

    Another load was the Jeld Wen out of southern OR you would wait a day for your load because they where always missing product and would not be released till the product was made. And then you got to do 2 or 3 HD stores 2 days apart with a total of around 350 miles on the load.

    Here is another great May run. 0700 Friday you would load at BI Mart dist in Portland and your first stop would be 0600 in Roseberg the next day and then you would have another stop in Grants pass and one in Medford. So 2 days spent on a less then 300 mile run. And then since you are now mty in medford you can go over and sit at JeldWen for one of there 3 stop 300 mile runs.

    If your lucky you can make it down to Stockton Ca on a GP load out of front street in Portland to get one of those Quaker loads that goes back up to Supervalu in Tacoma Wa and takes 8hrs for them to unload.

    In 6 months at May I had 2 loads 1 to PHX and the other to LA that where over a grand in miles but usually their long runs where to Bay area or SLC UT.

    Was even told by dpr that the LO had first crack at loads to LA and PHX. and that I had so many loads with Mult stops because they had a lot of drivers who had trouble finding there way around to multiple customers or had trouble with their tight docks and would not go back after the first time. Or they where rude to the cust because of there disgust at spending 2 days on a chump run and would take it out on them.

    I have worked at 3 other OTR companies from between 2 and 6.5 years and May was the only one that I threw the towel in after 6 mo's. The guy I got to go work for them lasted a year. My next company I have been with for almost 5 years.

    I am telling no one not to work for May I am just saying that you can work a lot of free hours and get average miles at May, or you can find a company that likes and rewards runners and has the frt to back it up in the West Region. Because May ain't it, unless you are one who has no life and just tools around in the truck and is happy to have a job and a cubby hole to sleep in.
