Drove a 660 HP F16 with "I" shift dragging three trailers had to use it as a semi auto as the computer wasn't set up for 120 tonne gross. Here in Australia we mostly use 18 speed direct "crash"box for the all up weights. Most drivers use the clutch as stop/go changing up and down the box is usually done clutchless depending on the experience of the driver.
Are all american trucks using unsynchronized gearboxes

Belive me after 15 or 16 years driving un synched trans and coming over here to Iraq and driving these freaky little things with V8 motors and synched trans and all that i had a learning experiance. What wa the funniest thing was a company over here bought a bunch of old JB and Celdon trucks and brought them over here they lasted a month at the most trans were all over the place they tryed to shift them like there syncroed ones and they were droping teath every where.

yes it is possible ...you can shift with double de-clutching even without clutch
i am from small country croatia from europe .....our manual gerabox are sincro..... mostly manufactured by zf (i think that they sell nonsincro as-tronic in US as zf freedomline) they are bigest transmision producer in europe.....exept zf we have merdes benz, volvo, and scania gerabox....
my dad and brother use double de-clutching-as most drivers do that......on manual zf with 16speed
my brother sometimes shift it without clutch
unsincro automated gerabox are very popular now in europe mostly ther are 12speed
zf-astronic
volvo i-shift
renault-optidriver ( hardware is volvo i-shift from 2002)
mercedes powershit
only scania have sincro automated gearbox
sorry for my bad english
@dingokid
do you have problem to get ad-blue in australia...
I ask this because here in Europe is very difficult to get....
and i have two questions
1.how much road trains use european prime mover
2.
I saw a lot of scanija with a single reduced differential (rb660 (662)+r660 they are rated here for 78tons (metric) but scania recommends 66tons
how is possible to pull 120+tons with this

floating is very hard on a sychro box. not only are they not made for it (actually they were built to eliminate double clutching which is still considered the correct way to shift the trucks) but it is pointless to do so, I personally find you lazy if you do, a pickups clutch is not that stiff.
untill my dive into driving, I did heavy line, suspention and alignments at a gm/chrysler dealership. replaced/repaired many a tranny in farmer and hotshot drivers trucks, and the dodge drivers are the worst at it cause they think that thier truck is a semi because it says cummins! -
That's funny. In almost five years, that Explorer of mine hasn't had a single transmission problem.

Hi will try to answer your questions --- yes we can get AD BLUE but only in the cities so most trucks carry a some on board, I think it comes in sort of sausage packaging. Road train prime movers are mostly Kenworth, Mack or Western Star but Volvo and Scania are being seen more and more. Just reading that Volvo have shown a 700 hp FH16 here, don't think it will do to well because of limited fuel tank space. We travel long distances here in Australia, at present I drive from Perth to Melbourne around trip of 7200 Km every week ( Perth to the South Australian state border is 17 hours driving time), I fuel up once on each leg as I have 1500 L long range tanks.
Roadtrains are spec'd up to between 90 and 130 tonne all depends on build Hp and differentials. Can send you some pix of road trains I have driven over the years if you want. -
I would be very grateful, especially European.
another question: do you have single or double reduced diff and if you know which ratio.
last time i forgot to write
scania opticruise-automated sincro gerabox -3pedal use clutchless shifting
Edit:
which i-shift program do you have? is it long haul and fuel economy?
i think that volvo on special request can offer heavy duty high gcw....

I use the 550 FH16 as my Avatar with the 3 side tippers on tri axle dollies it was legal for all up weight of 120 tonnes. Will get some photo's to you next time am at home which is not very often at moment.
98989 Thanks this. -
Hi everyone!
I have one question, so far. (sry for bad eng.)
What kind of clutch is used in the American trucks, or Australian trucks (with Fuller shifter)? Power clutch (hydraulic), or "bread power" :driver: ? -
Any experienced floater can float a synchro transmission. Force is what breaks the brass synchros. You have to be gentle and smooth. No grinding.
Four of us were on a road trip one time and my friends clutch went out. Everyone was mad at the situation we were in. I said I'll drive us home. I started the car in first gear and their mood changed when I started floating. We had 5 red lights the last five miles. Luckily I caught them all green.
Last transmission I rebuilt muscletruck, the synchro ring is next to the gear.
