It's sad. People have been conned into thinking an inflexible rule that removes a driver's judgment from the safety equation makes us all safer...

ELDs require ENGINE DATA. GPS doesn't monitor ECM DATA such as odometer, time, rpm and engine hours because there is NONE. It's simply not possible. As mentioned earlier, using GPS coordinates are the only way they can track a MECHANICAL truck because there is NO ECM on a MECHANICAL ENGINE.

    I know.
It sucks that a grown man can’t get on a plane in Russia and land in Chicago and hop into a white Volvo with a green hood and drive as long as he wants every day, day in and day out.

It's sad way too many drivers think a removing a more accurate way to record the time is the way to go.
We need to be fighting for sane HOS, not how said HOS are recorded....

I agree. 14 hours is way too long a work day, let’s knock it down to 12 hours

I think we agree. GPS is capable of determining if the vehicle is moving, where the vehicle is, and how fast it's going... what else is needed? The problem occurs if you lose the GPS signal.

Am I ok to drive, I dunno? I better look and see if the electronic box says I'm ok to drive...

    Wake up people.

It's about creating revenue and assigning blame.

In case you haven't noticed, no one likes truckers.

That's why ELD stores the other data to connect the dots after losing signal. They're using it as a stepping stone to push driver facing cameras and speed limiters. The speed limiter law was on it's way but luckily Trump put a stop to that shortly after taking office.

Speed limiter mandate, sleep apnea stripped from Trump DOT agenda

Unless you are running livestock, why would you need an exempt truck?

    Bank_Lbr and ZVar Thank this.
