Are handguns allowed inside a truck for protection?

As @MACK E-6 noted, its not illegal as far as FMCSA or DOT is concerned. But state laws differ greatly. You need to research each states laws. Not only IF you can but laws on HOW you can carry. Some states it needs to be in a locked case, some states require the gun in one locked case, the ammo, in a different locked case. Some states or municipalities regulate even the type of ammo allowed. New York does not allow hollow point ammo... period....zero for a private citizen. No matter what the situation.
Every state & many municipalities differ greatly & many get specific. Down here in the south, TX, Ok, Ar, La & Ms for example you're pretty safe but you gotta still know the laws. Some states etc, require that you must reveal conceal carry ANYTIME you come in contact with law enforcement for example.
Its legal to conceal carry in a CMV federally, but just know the laws wherever you are.
If you plan to carry, you really need to look at an insurance like "CCW Safe". There are several of these companies that provide insurance for U. S. citizens.SoulScream84, tscottme, LoneRanger and 3 others Thank this. -
I don't know of a single carrier that allows firearms in either their trucks or trucks leased to them. BEWARE of my play on words. I did not say prohibits them. I am going to take a guesstimate and say maybe as many as 90% of ALL CMVs on the roads in the US the owner of said vehicle or the carrier under whom the vehicle is operating under their DOT authority either outright prohibit them OR highly discourage them.
If you are NOT an OO running your numbers the first stop when it comes to having a firearm is your company. Very few drivers will get past this step! -
Get some bear mace

Flare gun
LoneRanger and North Pole Nightmare Thank this. -
But back to the OP, Bear Spray!
This is a legal in all 50 states, across the canadian border, and easy to get - plus cheap too.
You do not have to justify possesing one in a truck, seeing that trucks go to bear country all the time.
I do not know if Bear Spray is allowed on a military base, I never saw it on the restrictions list.
See the problem with a firearm in a truck is this seems to always escalates a situation and leads to more than verbal attacks. We already have issues with the crap low lifes dreges drivers who will run someone over, just because someone took the last roller dog.Bud A., SoulScream84 and ExoGeniVI Thank this. -
