I have been passed going down through these passes with a state trooper quickly on there back door
Are manuals basically going away for the automatics?

Once again we agree. But I cannot overstate enough that it was once again my intent to point out only that the auto is capable of getting folks out of those bad situations which happen when a driver has there head up their collective butts. It will downshift in situations that would be difficult at best in a manual. Yes if you are paying attention thi will never happen to a proffessional driver but we are not talking about proffesional drivers which is good because they seem few nowa days. I am again only telling you what the auto will do and not in anyway saying what you should do.

And maybe not completely but as larger fleets begin to sell their Autos to the secondary market they will continue to filter into the market. Plus, when brands make autos "standard equipment" like I think Volvo has already done, then buying a simple manual might actually cost more than the automated manual options due to it being a "special order"daf105paccar Thanks this. -
Just finished 3 weeks in an automatic. Jumped back in a manual yesterday. I feel in better control of the truck with a manual. I hate automatics and won't drive one again for anybody.

There are two sides to that coin.
It's true that some drivers may not "know how to shift their truck"... But some companies might need to buy some autos if they want to appeal to us drivers that prefer autos.
Why limit your potential hiring pool to only those drivers that prefer manual trucks?
Companies are in competition with other companies to "attract" drivers.
Two sides of the same coin.daf105paccar Thanks this. -
It is the same as with automobiles. Some prefer manuals, some prefer automatics. Nothing much different here, nothing to see, move along folks. There are good arguments on both sides for each style of transmission. It really comes down to a preference. If a carrier doesn't offer manuals and you want to drive one, then go to a carrier that has manuals or buy your own. The reverse is true. It is the height of arrogance to flail and wail against what a carrier buys unless it is your money that is being used. Instead, vote with your feet and go elsewhere. Then everyone is happy!

I dont think so might shift to more auto but i still think there will be a market for manual. I would hate to have a auto i am a local driver 50 miles max and a lot of city driving. I love to start on 3 gear when empty and skip and float gears for quickness. I dont see auto providing me that.
