So if im on a shoulder in line for a scale, which is obviously unsafe, but im forced to be there by the dot, and some ####### runs into me....will the DOT pay for the damage? Since it wouldn't've happened without these pencil pusher moron cops...
I think all states should be like indiana.."Bypass weigh station when ramp full"..but they also have a line painted on the ramp, with a sign "Ramp full at this line", and an obvious camera pointed at that line...
Are New DOT Regulations Needed?

What cracks me up is in that one news story they quoted a DOT officer as saying that drivers need to use "common sense" as to when they should bypass or not. Now I don't know about yall, but I've heard one too many stories about drivers using "common sense" and ending up with tickets, fines, lost jobs, lost licenses, etc.
Now, there may be "DOT sense" in this industry, and there sure as hell is "dispatch" or "carrier" sense. There's a lot of "shipper," and "receiver" and "lumper" sense around too. But I've seen precious little "common" sense.
And before DB hops on my ###, I'm not pickin on yall LEOs.
dieselbear Thanks this. -
You should never have to back up onto the shoulder for a chicken coop. Infact, I never will again. I haul a tanker now, and i dont give a tire what that sign says. My truck could flood a town with molasses or just blow up with 5 million gallons of whatever. Oh, maybe i'd be hauling dish soap and it'd clean everything?

If i get a ticket, i'll take it to court and beat it....
And what is with the idiots in the scale houses that let it back up that bad in the first place? Atleast most of them will shut the coop down and clear it out and re-open it....but i've seen some real morons who dont...i guess they think its funny. -
Easy hard charger you're going to blow a gasket. There could be a good reason, like the coop has a lot of sheet going on and does not immediately realize that it is backed up.
But then again I am hardly in a coop, so what the h_e_l_l do I know. -
lol nice reply. But look, it's one thing if it's just backed up bad... but if it's backed up to the point of being unsafe (trucks on shoulder instead of on a ramp), then....they should be able to bypass for safety...That's why i support indiana's "Bypass scale when ramp full", combined with a "Ramp full at this line" and a big obvious camera pointing at that line...as opposed to my home state of michigan's "Weigh station backup traffic use shoulder", especially when our weigh station ramps are HUUUUUUUUUGE....
Ever seen the coop on I495, the capital beltway in DC? Its a mile before a highway junction with a left exit, and all trucks have to be in the right lane to go to it, and this is a very busy 12 lane road. I don't even go there. What were they thinking? That's definitely not in the interest of safety.
You know what else'll make me blow a gasket? Back when i took the truck "home", the weigh station (new buffalo, mm 3) would always be open. and i'd always get a red light on prepass. Other than that, its pretty much never open! HOW DO THEY KNOW?!
And hell, the northbound coup has prepass, but the southbound coop doesnt, wtf?
You'd think granholm would keep these coops open more to make money, as broke as the state is. Oh well.
