I know that is a huge part of my problem. I am a newbie, just graduated from an accredited school, but still a newbie. I don't have experience in this industry, BUT I have 8 years at my current job, 0 tickets, 0 accidents, 0 DUI's and 0 criminal history. Just the kind of things everyone tells me trucking companies should be in love with. Now granted I am not applying at Swift, but I only apply for the jobs that say 0 experience or 1 year preferred but not required. I am willing to move anywhere and haul anything. I am not a primadonna. I don't think I deserve the perfect job. I am willing to work for it. I want it now only because I don't want to job hop. I want to go with a company that I can be with for the next 30 years and not have to go through the cycle of work for a year, get experience and quit to go somewhere else. Maybe that is just how this industry works?

As for my resume I am sure that doesn't help me either because I don't have any experience in this industry. I think it may even hurt me because I put my college experience there and many people have told me that would be frowned upon. Should I just leave that off my resume?

What kind of job are you looking for exactly? If it's OTR then you need to be looking for companies that say they hire recent grads.

What area do you live in? That is a big factor with many companies so be sure to check out their hiring area before you apply.

My dream job would be to work in North Dakota but I see those jobs usually require 2 years experience at least. I will move anywhere though, Alaska, Canada, you name it. Like I said, I even drove up to North Dakota just to see if I could get a job, but not so far.

I have a job with one of the better training companies lined up in a few weeks, but I still hold out hope before then that I can get a job I can be with many years instead of just hopping around. I just don't think it is fair to anyone to go through all the training and then only stay with a company a year. Is that just the way of the industry?

Work for them for a week. Quit without notice. You'll be off their list.

I sent out hundreds of online apps and only got called about a handful of times. In fact, the company I work for now was one of them that I sent an online app to. When they first called me I ignore it because I didn't think I would qualify to work for them. So the next week the same lady called me again telling me she went ahead of got my app approved and if I was still interested to give her a call back to set up when I'd like to come for orientation.

..I've been here ever since. I'm sure she got some kind of bonus if I stayed on for at least 6 months. That would explain why she's always so happy to see me when I stop in to say hi....

That is what I am hoping for, maybe one of my aps gets looked at and they can tell that I am responsible and really want to work. I just don't understand why all companies seem to be one of two ways, either they pay nothing and treat you like crap or are good to work for and pay well. Wish there was a company that would start you off at the low end and then let you transition to the better paying jobs after you prove yourself. I would much rather do that than have to go from company to company.

    Try Schneider.
They have several different home/work plans. They are hiring a lot of newbies right now. Their orientation is 2 weeks + a few days...with one of those weeks being on the road with a training person.
