It is legal in all states. Anyone that tells you otherwise is going by what other people told them and are not actually looking at state laws.

You can get a ticket for them in Washington state? ####. Pretty sure any other state is ok though only issue is some companies don’t want them cause it eats the steering wheel and when the turn the trucks in for the lease they get charged for the damage.Rug_Trucker Thanks this.

Unless you are running a yard dog what's the big deal? Seriously............... I did notice recently I saw a knob on a Walmart road tractor.

I love mine. It gives me more control. I can do quicker and more precise turns and maneuvering. I twist my knob to the inside of the steering wheel when I’m running down the road and twist it back upright when I’m about to exit the freeway.

Everything about trucking is illegal. A brand new truck is ripe for an OOS the minute it rolls off the lot. The law book can say something is exempt, but the trooper can write you the ticket anyway. then you go to court and have to plea bargain to some other charge and absolve the state of all recourse, and pay the fees. Btdt.
Give me the ticket and let me get on to the next hassle of the day please.FlaSwampRat, motocross25 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I have two trucks with them, I bought them that way, and never removed them.
They have been through numerous inspections, including inspections by the suits at the scales, they have never said a word about them.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
You realize this was posted in 2011 and the OP has not been on here since Dec 2014. Great jobLast edited: Jun 25, 2019

No reason for one of those with the great invention of power steering.. Ive ran quite a few farm tractors that had them and was no power steering.. Hope u wasnt holding onto it if ur steer slipped into a hole or u hit a curb. They should be called wrist breakers because thats what happen
Lepton1 and motocross25 Thank this. -
I took mine off for a while cuz it would occasionally pinch my finger between the ball and the wheel. It was in the truck when i was assigned to it. Couldnt stand not having it so i cut the stud and welded higher up to center in the steering wheel crown where it stands proud of the wheel more and cant pinch me. Wont be without one ever again.

You ever have a smooth slippery steering wheel you couldn't palm? My 94 KW had one I put a nob on it and loved it. This 96 pete had same wheel which is a 20" wheel that I replaced with 18" and can palm it now.
