Prove it to me that they, the CB's are a distraction by the DOT and Swift. I can think of three distractions besides the CB that we could get written up by the DOT for and could think of more off hand.
AT,
Lesson learned. Carry a tablet of paper on the clip board and a permanent marker as an alternative.

No proof needed. I didn't offer it up as a matter of my opinion, I don't personally agree with it, I just happen to know this has been discussed by our wonderful public servants in DC. I don't care one way or the other whether someone has a CB (I do) what they use it for or what kind (cost) it is. It doesn't affect me in any way. So I couldn't care less.
You want proof? Of what? That the industry is beginning to be as bogged down with bureaucratic BS as the insurance industry? Look around you.BigShrek72 and bluebonn Thank this. -
Well when your qualcomm has no signal and your cell phone is on the fritz and you need medical attention. The CB may just save your life Injun.
The minute they take the CB out of my truck is the last time I will ever drive again. Trucking just is not trucking without a CB......... Oh and a Sirius Radio!American-Trucker and The Challenger Thank this. -

As for the insurance, I know all about it too well. I saw the quote my boss got for me being on our policy.

Take it easy on Injun. I disagree with her too on the CB topic but she's probably not in the greatest mood right about now. See below:

I speak from experience about CB's saving lives. My first year driving, I was running across southern Virginia in the middle of the night, on my way to Norfolk. I happened to see a truck on the other side of the highway, pulled over, lights and flashers on. I almost kept going, but instead picked up the mic:
"westbound, you ok over there?"
Silence. As I was almost at his truck, I hear:
"hurting... my chest is hurting..."
I slammed on the brakes, pulled over. No traffic anywhere, nobody to stop. In 1993, not everyone had a cell phone. And this was the middle of the woods. I jumped out of the truck, ran across the highway. There was a guy in a cabover (like many of us drove in those days), hunched over his steering wheel. I told him "look man, I dont really know first aid, but I think you are having a heart attack. Lay across the doghouse there, try to relax, I'm gonna get help".
I heard a couple of guys jabbering on his CB. The signal was a little weak, but I tried it anyway:
"Break!"
"Go ahead break"
"Do you have a cell phone? There is a driver having a heart attack here, we need help"
I gave him my location, he was an owner-operator in a drop-deck, deadheading east. He found my truck, stopped. Turned on his yellow beacon, called 911.
Within minutes, there were volunteer rescue people there from the fire department, then a Virginia Highway Patrol showed up, blocked the highway for the rescue workers. I was helping him lay out flairs as the ambulance showed up.
The EMT told me I saved this guys life.
The elapsed time from the time I stopped? 32 minutes. From me stopping, to that driver grabbing my hand and saying "thanks man".
Something I have never forgotten.Business Reply, 25(2)+2, inkeper and 2 others Thank this.
