I agree with some of what you said. There are to many trainers out there like the example you gave. I even see the trainers that just blow up at the littlest thing. But a rookie (not meaning to offend you) training a rookie just doesn't add up to me. No matter which way it is justified a person in your posistion just doesn't have enough time behind the wheel. In my opinion if a person wanted to be a trainer than they need have at least 5 years (with a average of 100,000+ miles a year), no citations, no insurance claims (cargo, vehicle, or property), and have mechanical knowledge of trucks and trailers. Many people will say that these things are hard to find in a driver, but they aren't.

To be honest I would love to train guys. I don't mind teaching others the ins and outs of trucking. But I would have to be allowed to train them my way, not the company way. The two things that stand in the way are insurance and howmy pay. Unfortunitly with insurance companies running the trucking industry this isn't possible. I wouldn't be afraid to put a newbe in a 379 cause once they learn to handle this size of truck the smaller fleet speced trucks will be a cake walk.

I really have to agree with you 100%... I have only been driving for about a year myself, so i am a rookie. With that said I think if i had my choice i would rather learn from someone that had more experience anyways. I enjoy hearing the old tricks from back in the day. The only thing you have to watch out for in this situation; you have to make sure that your trainer likes what he does. If your mentor has been driving a while and does not like what he is doing anymore, then he is going to be miserable and probably no be very imformative. If you find someone who loves their job, then you've got a free ticket to some of the best info you will ever get on the road!

Of course you will probably have to listen to him ramble on and on, but it's worth every minute!

Well, I technically never disagreed with that. ;) I know I would be an excellent trainer, but personally, I wouldn't choose to be one yet as I haven't had enough experience to feel like I was justified to do it yet. :biggrin_25520:
