I don't think they are worth $150,000. But then again when I bought my first new one in 1988, I didn't think they were worth $86,000

I'm sure it's the same as any other product - a percentage is profit. What percentage . . . . no idea.

You also have to remember that you are not only paying for materials, labor, profit, equipment and other overhead but you are paying for R&D costs. Yeah they have had some mistakes in their testing in the last half of the 200x decade. Government mandates and regulations also drive up the R&D costs.

A truck is not as simple as a couple of rails, an engine and some tires.

It would actually cost more to go down and buy all the parts brand new and build a brand new truck in your shop that it would be to buy one off the assembly line.

My 2006 Ford F-350 Crew cab 4X4 Tuscany Longhorn conversion was window stickered at $65,000 when new.

Remember, all these new emissions on the trucks added about $25,000 to the price, THANKS EPA and CARB.

Ouch! Let's not forget we are also paying for the continual decline of our essentially worthless dollar like Weimar Germany, Zimbabwe, etc.
