Same #### happens here in OZ, I now a guy that has done more than 7 loads for my boss and on each load he is loosing about $150 and he has no idea. What a ########, he has already sold 2 of his trucks because he cant afford them anymore, but still he has not sat down and worked out that he under quotes himself and looses money. Thing is I used to drive one of his trucks and he was not good at paying and was short changing me every week , so of course im not going to tell teh arsehole that he is loosing $150 on every load (plus he is loosing more because of tyres, wear and tear etc. he he he. man im evil he he he :biggrin_2559:

There's no limit to the number of dummies that think they are gonna make it as an O/O when they don't know how to balance a checkbook or figure out how much it costs to run their equipment and pay themselves a decent wage.

I've run across the "If my wheels are turning I'm makin' money" mentality since I first started this business in the 70's and no amount of explaining can make an idiot understand!

I had a broker call me yesterday he had 9 joints of 30" pipe going 500 miles before he ask for a price he tells me he needs to get this pipe moved fast and has 11 loads to move he said 5 trucks didnt show up and thats why he was calling me

He tells me if i can haul them back to back one load a day he can pay me $850 a load:laughing-guffaw: so you would have to dead head back to do this

I told him thats why nobody showed up can't make money like that:biggrin_25512:

I would of told him to make it $1500 a load that way you can avg $1.50 mile with the empty bounce back thats doable... but not ideal... but $0.85 a mile thats flease rates lol oh well some one will take it that is for sure :biggrin_25524: too bad for them

i think the cheapest load some wanted me to haul was two weeks ago 70 mile D/H and then 320 miles loaded $120 all to gether i fell off my seat (truck was parked)

The big companys, TMC,Melton, LJ kennedy and a few more i cant think of are still takeing 48k flat bed loads out off my area for between $1.10 and $1.30 a mile. As long as these companys keep running at these rates things will never change because like said 1000 times before some ediot will allways take it no matter what. meet an O?O the other day loading next to me going to NC from Ct for $850. I asked him what the hell was wrong with him and he told me he makes his money on the way up and the load back pays for fuel. This mentality is the problem with trucking and rates. The funny part is he was getting $850 to go to NC and i was getting $925 to go 235 miles to NY.

i get that from a few brokers i have talked to... they say what do you care you just need to get back to handle your bread and butter loads... and i say it takes more fuel to run loaded for one and my straps and chaings don't throw them selfs or put them selfs back and 3 or 4 more hours away from my family is why you will pay me more to put that load on my truck or i bounce empty

shouldn't be that difficult to understand maybe its just me :biggrin_25523:

See it every day , underbid on loads then WHINE no $ in trucking.

Heck 1 place has a guy sitting with CASH for anyone pulling in if they cut 25% off the rate they had agreed on instead of waiting for the paperwork method and the check mailed.

Be surprised on the # that head for the cash , then later they are the ones complaining about cheap freight.
