I run from Cali to TX and then to either WY or CO...then back to Cali....
Mostly pipe loads...and one tarped load.....But the tarped load pays great and the broker pays fast.....Again...the loads I get usually go to or, come from BFE....
Are your rates going up also?

I know the rates going to TX from ohio aren't the greatest and they really suck coming back, for some reason alot of people feel the need to go down there. Right now I'm within a 200 mile radius of the house and usually home every night. If we could just get rid of some of the small moronic carriers around here we could keep these rates up!

It's "Supply and Demand".....
The pipe I bring to TX are referred to as "Shorts" by the mill....The buyer/receiver has a irrigation/well biz.....
The shipper even told me the reason why I get the rate is because they can't find anyone who is willing to drive out to South TX.....Or as he "kindly" puts it...."They don't trust their trucks".......
It's numbers game....I can't always get a load near the first drop...so it's either Houston or Midland.....Houston loads pay better and the rate makes up for the deadhead... -
Good thing that pays good, you got that new truck to pay for...

is that to the truck or gross? dont take this the wrong way but $3500 gross isnt all that great permits for just oversize would be about $560 and fuel about $650. but im used to being heavy where permits would be around $1400 depending on the weight and $1100 for fuel. that would only leave me $1000 to play with. im just not used to hauling legal loads like that.

We take dry freight out and reefer coming home. We have noticed our rates have gone up by $1.00 + per mile. However some times we use brokers like CH Robinson and TQL and we have noticed their rates are still the same. We don't even bother with them at all. Example a load distance of 189Miles they were offering $400 other companies and brokers were offering $650

The rates for HH have gone up alot in the last two months. The DD stretch loads are paying like a slot machine. I hope the rates hold because I'm still trying to recover from staying home so much last year.

From all of the indicators and from what I have heard. The rates are going up and staying up.
We have had 8 calls in the past 15 minutes looking for trucks. Looking at it last month we were lucky to get 8 calls a month.JustSonny Thanks this. -
I agree my oversize rates start at $3.50 a mile and go up from there depending on width and wheight.

This may sound like a dumb question but why don't you guys use this board, or some other forum, get together and decide a rate and stick to it?
Like a gas station does, the guy across street raises prices by 5 cents a gallon then the first guy can raise his price by 5 cents a gallon. I guess they call it collusion, but only if you get caught!
Really why don't we do that??? I understand that there will always be companies who will cut the rate. Go ahead and let them have the cheap freight and when they go out of business, or drop the ball from a service standpoint, you go to their customers and take their business!
If the numbers are correct you independent O/O are pulling the majority of freight, Why can't you band together and set the rates???
Or am i just being naive?
