(KMOV)—An armed man has barricaded himself inside a building after deliberately driving a truck into the buildings loading dock Saturday morning.
Police and fire crews from multiple departments are still on the scene at the Gateway Commerce Center, 141 Enterprise Drive, after a man drove a fuel tanker truck into the Schneider’s Trucking building just after 2 a.m.
The 40-year-old man is believed to be an employee of Schneider who drove the truck into the building’s loading dock, catching the truck on fire.
Fire officials, concerned over the potential dangers of hazardous materials, called the Madison County HAZMAT Team. Schneider-National authorities reported that no life-threatening or caustic materials were involved.
Crews are now on standby over concern for their safety after officers were able to look inside to see the suspect is armed with a weapon.
The man has barricaded himself inside the building, at this time, police officials continue to negotiate with the suspect despite his refusal to surrender to tactical officers outside.
No word on injuries at this time.

    UPDATE AT 12:10 p.m.:
EDWARDSVILLE • A standoff between police and a truck driver who had holed up inside the Schneider National trucking facility here ended about 11:55 a.m.
The unidentified driver apparently shot himself and was being treated at the scene, authorities said.
    EARLIER STORY:
EDWARDSVILLE • Police are continuing to negotiate by telephone with a man who has holed up inside a trucking facility at the Gateway Commerce Center after he crashed a truck into the structure.
The man claims to be armed.
A fire resulting from the crash drew firefighters from several departments to the Schneider National trucking facility, but the fire, mostly involving the truck, burned itself out.
The man, 40, of Alton, is a driver for Schneider, authorities said. Schneider, a national trucking firm based in Green Bay, Wisc., issued a statement saying the driver had been in good standing with the company.
"We have no insight into what may have motivated his actions today and are working with law enforcement to resolve this situation safely," the company said.
Authorities said the man tried to set fire to all of the computers inside the facility, but sprinklers extinguished those blazes.
At 2:08 a.m. today, an Edwardsville emergency dispatcher got simultaneous calls from the Schneider facility. One was from an employee reporting that a truck had crashed into company's loading dock. The other call was from the truck driver, saying he was armed. He reportedly said he would not be taken alive.
The Edwardsville Fire Department responded to the fire report, but were held back for their safey by police.
The area was cleared of workers, and southbound Interstate 255 was closed for a while.
Authorities went to the suspect's home in Alton where there had been reports of a fire. That report turned out to be false.
Negotiators from the Alton Police Department and FBI are talking to the man,
Gateway Commerce Center is a sprawling warehouse and light-industrial area in west Edwardsville, north of Interstate 270 and west of Interstate 255.

Anyone remember the Dick Simon driver who rammed his rig into the front steps of the CA capitol back in the '90s?
