I don't know about the trainer exp req. No APU, there's a underbunk heater that sips the tractor fuel. I use a pair of 12v fans to help keep cool.
You can use an inverter. The 12v outlets are rated at 400w, so I use a 350w inverter to run a laptop and guitar amp.
Most trucks have drivertech combined qualcomm/elec logs. I lucked out and got one with qualcomm only. I don't know what the % is, but I drop/hook quite a bit more than live ld/unld. All I've ever had to do was count or put in a load-strap. I don't recall the min age for riders, but I've had my wife with me from day one. You should ask for details on that since some companies require new drivers to be solo for a month or so before any passengers.
I do recall some info about tuition in orientation.
You will be offered a per-diem deal. I advise against it since they charge .04mi to do it. It makes no sense which is why I said no.
The new Pete 387s are small mid-roof models. Nice stereos with subwoofer, but minimal storage space and a no-go if you have a rider. That's why I got a KW T660, but there's no guarantee on that. There are a few new IH Pro-Stars as well. Trainers are driving Cascadias and a few Pete condos.

I just got off the phone with Tara. My orientation is in Jax on Monday 07 May 12.
For anyone interested and looking for this info, trainers must have at least one year of safe driving to qualify as a trainer. The first 75hrs are solo (trainer in 2nd seat) and remaining 35 hrs can be run as a team if trainer/trainee agree to it. Currently 90% no touch freight, 80% drop & hook. Yes to E-log's (paper as a back up). Tuition reimbursment is currently $150 month. I don't remember what the cap was because I didn't pay nearly that much for my training. They offer per diem but it's too complicated for me to repeat, but I'm sure they'll go over it in detail during orientation. Rider's must be at least 11 yrs old, and it's $7/wk to cover insurance. 2012 Peterbilt 587's with "8" speed manual (according to the Peterbilt website, the 587's are avaliable with 9, 10, 13, 15, or 18 speed transmissions. So it's probably a 9 speed, H pattern 1-8 with a "Low" where 1st would be on a 10 speed).
Oh, a question on the Qualcomm, is it the bulky box with a green screen and keyboard or the new MCP200? (like a really big smart phone with a slide out keyboard.) I meant to ask but my brain was doin the happy dance for e-logs and forgot. -
Does anyone no how long orientation is down in Dallas? I heard it was 2 days.

Just found this on a job posting.
"Orientation arrangements are paid for by us. We cover travel, hotel, and lunch. You will be responsible for your dinner. Orientation is in Jacksonville, FL, Camp Hill, PA, or Grand Prairie, TX, depending on what terminal you are closest to. Orientation is 3 days long, Mon-Wed. You will be dispatched the last day of orientation." -
3-days orientation, yes! If you go to GP, you will like the safety folks there. My prev co refused to fax the verification, so I was delayed an extra day. They paid for the extra hotel night and pizza for lunch for myself and one other driver.
I'm glad I got a T660 instead of an 8-spd Pete...
As for per-diem.... Per USX, they will take .04 mi out of your pay to do it. -
Getting on my trainer's truck tomorrow. Orientation was very good. Arnold put us in a nice hotel, bought lunch every day. JAX staff is very courteous and professional. Some got trucks and left Wed. and some had issues.
-
Also, Camp Hill is not used anymore.
-
Oh, does Arnold govern their trucks? I figure they do, so I guess the real question is at what speed?
-
The trucks are governed @ 65.
fisoxlt Thanks this.
