My mind was thinking the same thing.

Unless they were counting my pay check out, into my hand. There isn't much for these folks to talk about...except maybe to warn each other about flying lead projectials.

Besides, how many drivers would they have next week if everyone gave the company a second chance? 2 maybe.

I don't think so. Not just yet! Sure, there will be more freight available. But TMC, Maverick, & Boyd are currently foaming at the lips waiting to outbid each other out of business!

The opportunity won't be available for quite some time yet.

And will they have learned the lesson from Arrow????
Have their executive boards cut-back..or is it just belt-tightening for the drivers and the support staff?

Remember... a fish rots from the head down....

Back when I worked for a contractor...
We went through a slow period....Every day we would show up for work and a hundred guys would be "Standing against the wall"...

The owner's oldest son's pick-up was in the shop for repairs so he rented a IROC and showed up one morning burning out in the parking lot....

The youngest son came out of the office and yelled at his brother that dad wanted to see him......

The next morning...the oldest son came in with a Honda Civic....

The gist is....The owner knew we were all in bad shape and wanted to set an example to his sons.....

Remember...you can either be a leader and set the proper example or you can be a tyrant...and sooner or later...you become the example...just ask the execs at the former Arrow Trucking....

My husband has worked for several local guys.. and both of them are true examples of what should be.

One has semi retired, and his 24 year old DAUGHTER has taken the reins... and let me tell you, she would make any one of you proud! She started with 14 ratty old trucks and now has 11 2008 or newer trucks that are COMPLETELY paid for, and she did it herself. No goverment grants for this girl.. and her drivers make TOP wages. I remember helping her learn to drive those rigs...

The other has 2 sons that work at the business every day, and not a dime is wasted... and his daughter in law will bust chops if she thinks anythig is wasted..

    That's like "Old Man" Segerstrom....
If you are familiar with South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa....
The Segersrtom family owned that land.....
    Planted mainly beans and corn....
When the land became "Too valuable to farm", it was developed into houses and into South Coast Plaza...

Now if you drive N/B on the 405 towards Fountain Valley.....As you pass by SCP, you'll notice a patch of land....in the middle of all that development...
"Old Man" Segerstrom insisted that the developers never get that parcel...I used to see him running his tractor on that land.....
He knew the "real" value of that land...

Knowing what truly is important has all but been lost in this day and age.....
We need to return to the days when people knew the value of hard work.....
People knew when to invest and when to enjoy the fruits of their labor....

    GuysLady Thanks this.

That right there makes a world of difference. If the owner, ceo, manager, boss, or whatever you want to title them knows how to do the job, then the company will succeed.

How many trucking execs know how to drive a truck? Load a trailer? Tarp a load? Hell, how many of them even know what the inside of a truck looks like or even knows how to put fuel in one?

I think a lot of people will be investing in hard work and gardening over the next year or so. If they want to eat. :biggrin_25525:

For most large companies....The "Bean Counters" run the companies....

There is a General Contractor that built the Blue Line in L.A. That required everyone from a VP on down, to work in the field for 3 months every year....

I remember tying rebar for the track bed with a VP...
He also was there when we poured the track bed...humping concrete....
