I am only 31 yrs old and I am feeling a lot of pain in my fingers and hands, my right hand hurts like hell when I drive any Peterbilts and now it is starting to hurt using the Kenworths. I drive in the oil fields in ND, so maybe it's the roads, what can I do to stop hurting in the truck? Any advice? Maybe a hand brace or something? Magnets? If not, I may have to find another profession. Not gonna sacrifice my hands for a job. CZ

Have you talked to your doctor? Celebrex can do wonders, or if not a bad case, Naproxen or Aleve(over the counter) helps a lot. Use your palm shifting instead of pulling with your fingers and it will take the strain off of them. I've been dealing with arthritis for a while. You learn ways of doing things that won't add up to pain later.

Also do not grip the steering wheel so hard. I do not think it the type of truck that you drive. I been having issues with Arthritis since I was 34 medical discharged due to it in my knees from the service. As I stated in previous post using the toothache med does kill the pain and fast, do not use the cream type but the liquid. All the other meds mention by others are good but for me I might as well take M&Ms. Heck some prescribed meds is like M&Ms now for me.

Depends on your diet, but there's so much nutrition taken out of our foods in processing that affects our health.
Some farmers are even adding ground/powered granite back into the soil to help with mineral deficiencies.
    Little story follows....
Found out some years ago there's a substance called MSM. Methyl-sulfonyl-methane
Not the same type of sulphur compound that peeps are allergic to. NOT a medicine.... just a food supplement.

What it does is keeps the walls of your cells flexible so that nutrients and wastes can go in and out easily.
Great byproduct is that it keeps you flexible as well.
Back then I was working at a computer job sitting all day... would have problems just getting up and moving. Wrists, hands and fingers getting stiffer and hurting more each day from typing and mousing.

Nutritionist said try this hand lotion, it's got MSM in it. A few nights use and realized that my hands didn't really hurt anymore. Hmmm... stopped for a few days and dang, didn't realize HOW much they ached. Right back at the lotion, again, way less pain.

Also... my then 15 yr old son, being 15 yrs old, 6' tall and 220 lbs... knew everything. (Still does, he's now 31!) So when the kids are practicing jujitsu block and kicks and the instructor said to block with your fists closed...he doesn't. Son #1 ends up with a broken bone in his hand. The xray looks like a pencil that was snapped in half and the broken ends held at a 45 degree angle. Ortho doc said it would heal just fine and here's a cast. See ya in 2 weeks.

Well, it's hot in Hawaii in the summer... That MSM lotion is also somewhat neuralgic.... good for that summer times sweat and itching in the cast.
Kid uses about half a pint of the MSM lotion, 2 weeks later back at the doc's, another x-ray, ok, you're good, just don't kiai (hit with fist) any more floors for a couple weeks. Total time for bone to heal... 2 weeks. Mike told Doc he was using msm lotion. Much to my surprise, doc knew about it, said great stuff, but can't prescribe it because it's not a drug, also told me to keep using it. Doc's an ortho specialist, ain't gonna contradict him.

Asked nutritionist for info. Ended up taking pills. Label on bottle says one a day. However, since they're water soluble and an overdose just gets eliminated, she said try 3 or 4 per day until you find the level you need. One's not enuf if your system is depleted. Been taking them for over 20 years. Can now get by with one a day unless I'm being very active. Both my parents and grandmothers had either arthritis or what they used to call rheumatism... stiff joints and much pain.

I use NOW Foods brand, there's others. Sam's and Costco used to sell plain MSM but found out that if they added glucosamine they could charge 3x the amount. Not sure about glucosamine or other additives, but hey, won't hurt to try it.
Most docs have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to nutritional supplements, or even food. I've even had one real doctor (saw his diploma from a real medical school) tell me that it didn't matter what I ate or drank, it wouldn't affect my digestive system... Really? Tell that to my intestines which at the time didn't like anything.

The other good thing about MSM compared to pain killers is so far no one's found any effects on internal organs like kidneys or liver.

Y'all be safe out there... I'm taking my cdl test tomorrow and hope to run into some of you guys but no,... NOT literally! :biggrin_2551:

You may have what i have, Rheumatoid arthritis. It is common in the hand/finger joints. I'm rt. handed and unfortunately this is where my pain is. Most of the cartlige in 2 of my fingers have been destroyed. Unfortunately there is no cure for R/A. Over the counter pain meds do nothing. I have a prescription for Tramadol as well as Vicodin. I will not take vicodin during the week even though it is on record with my employer that i have a script. Because of my condition i can only get a yearly DOT med. cert.
