As a shipper, how do I find owner operators?

It would help if you gave your location and the routing and frequency of your loads . If an O/O is leased to a carrier the shipper must deal with the carrier .

 

isnt there a load board for direct shippers? i always heard it was not a great board on our end but may be better on your end. you need an independant owner operator. they have to have their own authority. some omner ops have agreements with their companies. to be abpe to haul their own.loads but it is kind of rare and you still have to deal with the company but these are usually smaller owner op companies. i know a few guys who all run under a friends authority and they load all their own loads. so as you can see it all sort of depends. i know, not great answer




the main problem with getting owner operators to haul your stuff is them trying to get back to you to run the next one. this is what makes the one truck owner operator hauling dedicated for a direct shipper a pipe dream for the most part unless you pay well enough for thrm to run back empty. and even then i would hate to.pass up more money finding a load back. so you would probably have to have araingements with many more operators then you need just because they will take a while to get back to you if you have other loads that to go.

that said the locations are thr important thing. you say dairy locations but thats pretty much anywhere and loads from those rural areas are hard to come by sometimes.

also being in the chicago area there is a lot of good paying freight there so your rates have to be higher then they would be if you were in that rural area. but you have a much larger truck pool to swim in too

 

Most likely you'll have to stick with larger carriers . Independent O/O's with their own authority won't fool with hazmat . Keep in mind as a shipper you could be held liable if there was an accident and you choice a carrier based solely on low rates . More and more shippers are carefully checking carrier safety ratings .

 

Post your loads on Internet truckstop or getloaded. That is all the brokers do to find trucks.

 

you just used the B word. just a little tip for you. NEVER say backhaul to an owner operator. i would hang up on you just for that. we live on the road, there is no such thing as "backhaul". i will go anwhere there is money
