Unfortunately, its like a third world country there. Razor wire on the top of the fences surrounding the trucking terminals. But, on the brighter side, I've heard nothing but good about May also. Glassdoor.com has them rated pretty high. (with 3.8 stars of 5) only 4 reviews.

That may be so, but nonetheless, Chicago is not Indiana.

So anyway, Nightwind8830, what side of Chicago do you live where it takes you a hour forty to Gary? You sound like you live out by me. I don't blame you. But, you don't have much choice, all the big trucking companies have their terminals there. You could try ROEHL and they'll rent you a car for orientation in Marshfield or Appleton, Wi. They're also a good company. And they're not in Gary, IN, which is not Chicago. (flatbed division is)

What will you do when you have to go through bad parts of LA or new York, florida. I.also.worry about safety being a women but you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times even in great well to do neighbor hoods there is bad.

    Krazyhorsechick,

You make a valid point and I agree. I never thought of it that way :biggrin_25514: .I think, never having driven before, I can only imagine what places like truck stops are like for a younger woman driver, so i've been reading up.There are some good threads about what to carry for protection in your truck and how to keep it secure at night, I suppose driving through Gary or anywhere else shouldn't be a huge concern if common sense and awareness of my surroundings is exercised.

    Turk,

Most companies i've looked at seems to have a terminal in Gary. I've spoken with Roehl recruiter and I'd go with their Oak creek,WI terminal if I decided to drive for them...I live out in Sleepy Hollow,IL.45 min away from the city and roughly hour and a half from Gary, rockford, and a few WI cities where most companies seem to have their terminals. My classmate told me May had a terminal in Chicago, thats why I was asking in this thread.and the Roehl recruiter told me they do have a terminal in Gary.I would have a choice between indiana or oakcreek...

anyways I dont mean to hijack the threat about May,I've heard they are a good company and wanted to see if they had a terminal in the city :biggrin_25526:

Be on guard at all times, check yer surroundings at all times. Carry a short handle ball-peen hammer with ya at all times.

    krazyhorsechick Thanks this.
