Iv only been here at may for a week, but in this week iv had nothing but good every driver that I have come in contact with has been nothing but respectful and helpful. And I can see there is a family feel here. Drivers have come and gone and they all say hi and by like they have always known you. I know know with out a doubt that I chose the right place.

Most companies i've looked at seems to have a terminal in Gary. I've spoken with Roehl recruiter and I'd go with their Oak creek,WI terminal if I decided to drive for them...I live out in Sleepy Hollow,IL.45 min away from the city and roughly hour and a half from Gary, rockford, and a few WI cities where most companies seem to have their terminals. My classmate told me May had a terminal in Chicago, thats why I was asking in this thread.and the Roehl recruiter told me they do have a terminal in Gary.I would have a choice between indiana or oakcreek...

anyways I dont mean to hijack the threat about May,I've heard they are a good company and wanted to see if they had a terminal in the city :biggrin_25526:[/QUOTE]

I don't mean to hijack it as well, May is a excellent company. Sleepy Hollow, cool little town, rt 47/64. Tasty little hotdog stand on the corner. Where did ya go to trucking school, Elgin community or Kishwaukee community? Yes, you are a distance from Gary. Im curious what terminal they have in Oak Creek, I've never heard of that one. May does get high ratings according to what I've read.

I also heard wasp spray and stun gun as options.there are a few good threads about what to expect when your out on your own and how to keep yourself safe.also heard from my friends mom,who is an otr driver,to put the seat belt through your door handles so no one can open the truck doors since apparently trucks dont have very many dif lock types .she told me someone elses key might be able to open your truck....

Anyways, i think im going to check out May truckings website and go from there :)

    goodnight everyone

At May, any of their Peterbilt keys can open any other of their peterbilt trucks. Same with the cascadias and with the prostars. They key their truck models alike. Just a heads up.

....which is why our keys are attached to a special plug. You cannot start the truck with just the key, you gotta have the electronic plug inserted, or you cannot run off with our valuable load of GP 2-ply.

But a current or former driver can still get into your truck and steal stuff, even at one of the terminals. I know a couple of guys that happened to.

    OK, Mr May Trainer...
    I need some opinions!
I can either go to orientation next Tue for Swift, or wait 5 or 6 weeks for a female trainer from May.... I wouldn't care if I had a trainer from Mars, but I guess those folks up there in Oregon insist females have female trainers....

I think I can make more $$$ with May, but how are miles running now? I know Swift has freight, I also know much depends on the DM or dispatcher or whoever her/she's called...
The biggest obstacle I see to May is that there are no May facilities anywhere close to where I like.... like within a five state area... and since I'm in Texas, that's a pretty big area. I'd be in the 48 part, no problem there.

If I can get to Texas, maybe 3's a year, that would be fine, tho. I guess I could park at the local WalMart, there's actually about 4 spots that are totally apart from any loading docks, it's only a mile from my house. So I guess that would work.

Swift has a terminal about 50 miles from my house, so that's no biggie either.

My biggest thing right now is which I could possibly make more money driving for... I already have my CDL, tanker, dbls/trips, and Haz-Mat. and a passport.

Oh... since I'm self-employed part time and can't prove I worked this year...because Fed income and State business taxes aren't due until the end of the year, I'm getting a lot of no's from different companies. Or they don't have a trainer available in my area, or it's flatbed... and I'm way to old to do flatbed.

Thanks and any opinions are appreciated, as well as the smart alecky replies!
    Mary
