Yeah; what he said^.
You will need to buy a GPS. Yes, a truck one. (No, you cannot use your smartphone/iPad instead. No!)
Yes, you can probably get away with a Rand McNally map for awhile; let me know how that works out for you. No, I don't want to hear about how your Uncle told you that he relied solely upon paper maps when he was a trucker)

Well, since no current May Trainers are coming to racin2win's rescue, I will also say this regarding May's safety policy. Regarding the use of GPS devices, unless they are trucker route specific and on May's safety "approved" list, it's against company policy to use one.

I would not do satellite. get a hot spot, a lap top, and stream just about anything you desire.

careful what you're streaming... that can suck up data like crazy

Hi all,
I was considering May Trucking for a few reasons, Close to home and their equipment. I would like to know how many miles current or former drivers was averaging on the 48 state side a month? How much sitting do you actually do or did? I get tired of listening to disgruntled x employee's and lying paid recruiters. What are the major lanes on the 48? How long did they force you to stay out before you can get your home time? Did any drivers actually get their detention time after 4 hours long as you were on time?
Thanks for any help on this.. -
If I got a GPS ... Yes it would be a Truck Rated GPS. I think they are a nice "additional" tool that can be used with a Road Atlas and Google Maps or MapQuest. Something else to make the job a little easier. Especially when ur trying to find that little side street that isn't well marked.
Streaming works .... you just have to pay for that (Netflix or HuluPlus or others probably out there). One guy was right ... can consume a lot of data. It just would be nice to have a small TV w/ satellite and watch a little live TV when u want. Make it feel a little more like home I guess. lol -
On 48 side you have to stay out at least 3 weeks, they were pretty good with getting me back after 3 weeks most times. I really didn't notice any 'lanes', tho once I went to the west coast i was most likely going up north to othello to pick up some frozen stuff and knew i would be heading out east toward IL, OH area. Home for me was denver, so once back from hometime it was usually a coors load, and those usually seemed to go up back to the northwest, but wasn't always the case, sometimes there would be a repower in denver going east or something. just seemed pretty random to me most times. I usually didn't sit much, and detention they seemed to get you done right under that 3 hr window (wasn't it after 3 hrs of detention? its been a while)
I never really streamed movies and such, i was always more into playing games on my laptop, which some are just nasty when it comes to data and some not so much. guess its a good thing im still into text based games cause they dont take up much lol but yeah if I could have tbs running in the background then it would be exactly like home haha.. in the truck or at home my life is pretty much the same... drive, play on computer, sleep ^.^
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you out there on the roads and those lucky enough to be at home. This is the first holiday in the past 2 yrs im not sitting by myself, be safe out there!jomar68 Thanks this. -

Blue,
Thank you for responding I appreciate it. I guess they bumped it to 4 hours of detention. I remember when it was two and good luck getting it from most training companies. Well thanks again and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Thanks,
