I have seen a 50 mile gap in almost all the trips, I dont believe they pay practical miles. But I appreciate all your input. Honestly thats not a big deal for me, my concern is idle time. I live in FL pt and GA pt, I know what heat w humidity is!
Can I ask you platinum, what are you doing to address your concerns? I have been trucking for many years now and can assure you it is practical miles (if you F-UP) by making wrong turns, not trip planning correctly, or not communicating the difference if you did do things correctly then, of course your miles would be different! If you do as your suppose too there should be very little difference. Can I ask you another question ? What are you doing to manage your IDLE TIME. Because it seems as if your TRAINER didn't do much in the way of equipping you with the proper knowledge to mange your truck. I'm a firm believer that if you can manage your self you can manage to be a success at any company. And that some people will have a bad experience no matter were they go. - Trucker Steve Understanding and Attitude are everything in life
I do everything thats on the QC, We plan to what it says and do not leave the route for any reason! I will see as time progresses I have had more idle time coupling and sitting in traffic than anything the last two weeks! Everything else is good to go! I am going to be doing a spread sheet while I am traveling along with temp inside and outside the truck. We will see as time passes. I learned alot from my trainer, he is very positive. I will let you know if a few weeks as I am soloing out tomorrow or friday and then getting a few days off to take care of some business in FL. Be safe everyone!
Tip to save idle time. Whenever you are out of your truck for whatever reason, turn it off. Whether you are hooking, dropping, sliding tandems, whatever. Turn it off. It may be a pain to turn it back on all the time. But the little things will add up to help conserve idle time. Like my trainer told me "if you don't turn it off when you get out, its like throwing change out of your pocket onto the ground.". That was when we got paid the difference in our time if we were under the percentage. I don't think we are getting that anymore unless it is only for the summer months. I haven't seen an idle bonus yet this year. Perhaps Steve can confirm?
Hey trainers read my post in experienced trucking, I got a questions maybe you can assist in advising.
Hello all what a awesome thread. I am attending Ait in Phoenix starting in July. I have some general questions I haven't seen answered in this thread. 1. I live in the Tucson area do you think they will hire me I live about 10 miles south of 1-10? 2. Did they get the trainer situation fixed as some of the earlier posts stated they didn't have any available. 3. Do they have any type of tuition reimbursement? 4. The days off sound okay, but if I had a week long camping trip scheduled a year in advance would I be able to take that time off with out loosing my truck? 5. I will be trained on a 10 speed is it that hard to learn the 13? 6. How do you sleep in Phoenix in the summer time? 7. What are the chances of getting a female trainer? I am female 8. Can you take your truck home? I have 4 acres and parking won't be a problem, Triple T truck stop is about 10 miles from my house? Well that is a good start. I am really intrigued with May and would love to work with a company such as this. I think I would be a good fit. I really don't want to start at a mill ( um) well you know what I mean. Oh I already have a CDL but haven't driven and automatic in a long time, additionally I am planning on receiving my hazmat and other endorsements. So my schooling is a shorter version only 4 weeks. Should be ready to start First week in August. Thanks for your input!
Last I heard he was.. However I believe he was having some medical problems. Not for sure on that tho.
1) Normally yes, call recruiting to verify as this could change at any time. 2)Again depends on the current situation and not one to easily forcast. Are you a smoker or non smoker? We did/or have a few teachers/coaches that are female this could be a benefit to you. May Trucking does not allow opposite sex training environments in over nite situations. 3)Yes, I believe up too 5000 4)When you come through orientation I will talk with you about that. Or you can send me a PM and I will tell you all about that. 5)Depends on how quickly you learn. Everyone is different in their ability to process information. No one could respond to this question other then to share their own experience. (I personally had no problem learning the 13 speed.) 6)I live outside Phoenix AZ. So this is normally not a problem. I have written many articles about this. I will share tips with you when you come to orientation. 7)What I have heard their currently doing for females is to have them ride with a (short haul/local trainer) and have the female in a hotel room every night. Again, this is currently and could possibly change by the time you get here! 8) Again, will talk about his question in PM or in person. Which ever happens first.
