hello , i thought i would shime in on the last commit, not that mine is right but what the heck, this winter when driving through wyomingi mianly from wamsutter to laramie this is where i experienced the go slow method lol, i think that going to slow (GRANITE GO THE SPEED YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE) can get you into trouble as well, i found going the speed that will keep me from spinining out as well as having my power divider in seem to work well, my reason for saying this is i got behind a couple of trucks that were going slow enough to where they spun out and there they sat in themiddle of the interstate going up hill, I think the main thing is if you dont feel comfortable driving in those kind of conditions pull over, i had to remind myself that i was the captain of my ship and i did pull over a few times, I hope every one is staying safe and HAVN FUN

The conditions and the speed were not as bad as I thought. The Blizzard in Chicago this year was worse.

Hey guys. If anyone has asked this I apologize for being redundant. Read too much of this thread, and still didn't find the answer and got impatient.
So, when a guy who is living within a few miles of the Phoenix terminal is hired on, does Opal send him to orientation and road test in Brooks OR, or does he do road test and orientation in Phoenix and then get assigned a trainer from the Phoenix terminal? Seems like it would save everyone time and money in travel to Brooks, not to mention making sense.
Thanks! -
Normally you would stay in Phoenix- but sometimes "stuff"
happens......JahB Thanks this. -
Phoenix......

pjw044, Thanks. "Stuff" happens? Reeeally? You mean truck driving can be unpredicatable? LOL
Thanks Joker. I figured as much. May makes sense, certainly as compared to some. I assumed so, but you never know. -
May just installed a skills course at the Fontana yard. All new hires from the L.A. area will now do a prelim skills course there first. If the person administering the test there deems the new hire "ready", they will be sent up to Brooks for orientation and road/skills test in Brooks again.JahB Thanks this. -
The other thing that is changing at May is local drivers are not going to train new hires any longer. Gotta go out with OTR trainer.
-
when were they letting local drivers train the new hires
I don't think I would have liked training that way. then again you're home every night, for those that like that sort of thing lol

I liked it when the student that I picked up in Denver rode with the local guy for a week before he went otr. He had more idea of what was going on and was usually a better driver/backer. As long as they are not fully with the local guy and just for a week, I see no problem.
