Brandy new (just over a hundred miles) 579 4 axle 13 spd daycab (thru PacLease). Shifting from 4th to 5th (low range to high) will get hesitation for engagement. Will sometimes get into 5th without it engaging and rev engine. Have attempted to ensure I pre-select in 4th (other trucks I drive that have been around the block a few hundred thousand times let me select/shift no problem) before coming out of gear and into 5th.
Doesn't happen all the time, but still once or twice more even when I am trying to pay attention and not fall into usual shifting habit. Question is is this a new truck it will work out thing, or is there a possible hang-up with the air line supply?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

New trucks are usually slow to split/ range shift. Sometimes they can take a couple seconds for the first ever shift. Give it another hundred miles to break in. Try pausing in nuetral to make sure you hear the clunk before enganging 5th.
If the problem doesnt get better take it to the dealer, could have an air regulator issue. More then likely just needs to be broke in though.

Thank you for the reply pushbroom! Will let it ride and try to give it an extra half a second in neutral. Truck does not get driven everyday so it'll be awhile before I know what's going on.

Trying to find out proper brakes for the truck. 1978 Pete 359. SQHD Rockwell Drives. I have the original shoe numbers from the build sheet but cannot get them to cross to current numbers. Vin is 99925N. Front shows 02-01024L and 02-01024R. Rear shows 1 number - 03-03106. Will need complete new shoe kit numbers with all extra hardware.

Looking for a fresh/recirculate door for a 97 379. Local dealer is having a problem locating one.

It is not listed on the parts breakdown. I know on other 379s it is sold with the entire hvac housing assembly and not available separately

    SAR Thanks this.

I have a question, is there any way to soften the ride on a 2019 389 extended cab Peterbilt with heavy spec suspension. It has the air trac rear end the front is taper leaf springs.

Trying to find an exploded diagram of a 2000 Pete 379 and a 3406E that lists all the parts. Where can I get that?
