Asking about traniers!

  1. I trained for swift for about 2 years.

I started training because of countless experiences with newbies asking for help at truck stops and terminals. Many trainers do use trainees for nothing more than the truck payments.

What I did got me in some trouble with Swift.

I would not allow the trainee behind the wheel for the first 2 days. This way he has gotten a bit mroe comfortable in the truck. the first 2 days were spent discussing the log rules and QComm.

That alone got me in trouble.

I was not training for the money. I made that clear to my Driver manager. I was training because I saw too many who werent trained properly in their time with a trainer.

Some had never scaled a load
Some didnt know how to move their 5th wheel
Some didnt even know how to log their work

Now Swift has new guide lines for training. They are trying to clean up the problems at hand.

My advice ... do not go to a school affiliated with a trucking company. This way you are not tied to a contract, and become slave labor for a year. Go to an independant school where you pay them, so there are no strings attached.

(( earlier this year the Swift Schools in Memphis were raided by feds. This alone has shed some light on some of the crooked practices used by the big companies to cover the bottom line ))

Also to those who wish to become a trainer ... it is not for everyone. One must put the time and care into teaching what they know ... NOT the company line.

dream world? no sir its a real world, a world of think they know the trade cause the lil school they went to says they do. I have both parents that are drivers so i grew up in the trade. and yeah i was a cdl instructor and met plenty of you greenhorns who thought cause they were older than me they new more than i did. So go for it and show us all your skills, then after you rack up enough preventables that even swift shuns you then maybe you can trade that new cdl in on a forklift permit.:biggrin_25514:
