It is actually $550 & it is due now. I think the IRS allows you to pay it by 8/31. But they no longer allow you to make payments on it. If that 2290 isn't paid you can say bye bye to your base plate.

    Ha, Ha, Ha,

Ahhhhh, you hardly get to see any Cabovers on the road anymore!

I've got a wooden replica of BJ and the bear Kenworth truck that my son made up, out of 1/8" Panelboard. Looks just like it.

People seem to pick up and collect old cabovers.
You can find old Cabovers for sale pretty cheap.. Around here you can find one sitting on some farm land and pick them up for around 6,000.. And refurbish it.

Hey ! Maybe Ntio70 can pick up an ole' Cabover for starters , then pick up a girlfriend and have her sit on the dog house next to him ?

to all who want to buy a truck...
when you become an owner of a big rig...the best thing to do every day b-4 you start out is...OPEN THE DOOR AND PLACE YOUR HAND INSIDE THE DOOR-JAM AND SLAM IT ON YOUR FINGERS... after this, the day will allways get better

You're on the right track and don't let anyone here dissuade you. This is exactly how I did it. I started in 2000 and the first 8 years I was busting it out here, not really having much of a life otherwise, but after a couple of years I was putting back $500 a week minimum into savings. I had some weeks where I put back $650. I bought a brand new '07 dodge diesel pickup in Nov '06 and a good used '03 Kenworth this past March paying cash in full for both. I've got a good start on my retirement savings plus a good chunk of cash saved up for operating expenses. If things go according to plan I'll be building a paid for house in another 5-8 more years. Most of your naysayers have a half dozen kids, 2 car payments, boat payments, motorcycle payments, credit cards etc. Don't fall into those traps. Just drive a company truck and save, save, save. Oh yeah, and listen to Dave Ramsey on XM/Sirius for inspiration especially on fridays.

We have a Public Auction from US Auctioneers coming up, here on Thursday the 16th.
They have Tractors, Trailers, and Misc Vehicles.

They're selling stainless steel vans, flatbeds, reefer vans, aluminum vans, end dump, container chassis, Freightliners galore, Mac's, a 2000 Peterbuilt 377 , 475 Cat,
    a 95 Peterbuilt 362 Cabover,280 Cummins ,
a 95 Peterbuilt 379 Dump Truck Series 60,470 detroit engine, with a electric roll Tarp. and utility trucks, daycabs, cargo vans and on and on.

We get quite a crowd here at this auction,, but you should have a good mechanic there with you to know what to look for., if that's not up your alley.

This Auction moves around all over the country. They mail us a brochure everytime they have one here in this area.

Wished I had my pennies saved.. :biggrin_25519:

So your saying even in a GOOD/GREAT economy it is a completely horrible idea for a single guy to buy a truck and become an owner operator?

Is it really that bad guys?

Dude if you know yourself and you want to do it then do it.

There are many who feel that just surviving with their own truck are 100 times more successful than a driver who owes their life to a job application working at the pleasure of another.

If you think that way then don't let anyone stop you. If you like life wrapped up nicely with a neat bow then don't.
