Hadn't thought of that since I never see any postings for any places like that. I'll look into that tomorrow Mike. Thanks for the idea buddy.

Bedbuggers actually make pretty good money; my wife's gal pal's son works at one with his dad. He's 25, I'm not...LoL! It's pretty physical, so I hear. Opens up avenues, though! Good luck; let us know!

So THAT'S what bedbuggers are. Lol I'm disappointed I didn't make that connection sooner.

Ok so a little update. I went in for the interview at Coleman/United for a local position. For "local" drivers you're guaranteed 750 a week minimum, M-F start at 7:15 until whenever you're finished. During summer they run M-Saturday. Everything was going alright until the end when the fella said, "well, I like ya, but I'll have to see if I can get you cleared with all those tattoos." So, after hearing that I pretty much put this gig in the back of mind, as he had a list of other applicants that were coming in. The few times I've heard that in an interview, it's never turned out well, although I understand why, since you'll be entering peoples homes so its no big deal.

I'm waiting to hear back from my SNI recruiter to see if I'm still good to go for orientation on the 24th, although it's a bit disappointing as I really enjoy flatbed work and that's what I was shooting for. The thing is, McElroy will not get me into orientation at the Ennis location, until May the 1st, and I'm really not looking to wait that long to get going. I COULD get into orientation on the 24th, but I'd have to take my personal vehicle or ride a bus. I'm not putting 1200 miles on my personal vehicle and leaving my wife stranded, and I'm not riding a greyhound either. I believe SNI has a flatbed division if I'm not mistaken? Not sure how lucrative it is, or if it's even a regional deal, which I want so I can get home for at least my 34 every week.

I'm even thinking of places like......and don't dislike me too much for this but (Werner) becasue I know they have flatbed. Just trying to think of companies that run flats, that I could get on with quickly that run regionally. I've applied at:

TMC- declined, not given a reason
Paul Transportation- declined, plus they're only OTR
Kiem Ts- declined, since I'm too far out of their hiring radius
Daryl Thomason- declined, not enough experience
Cypress- declined, I wasn't willing to provide tax returns from when I was self employed
McElroy- Accepted, but can't start until the 1st of may

I've been trying to find flatbed companies that will take me quickly, hiring in my area, as I'd like to get into orientation on the 24th and preferably a company with orientation in TX, (trivial) but either way most of the places I come up with, require a certain amount of experience.

Doesn't sound like a driver shortage to me.

TMC is VERY picky, doesn't surprise me. They probably wouldn't take me either, at 52 with 17 years' exp! .... and as I and MANY have said, SNI is not so quick to hire, and VERY quick to fire. @Thull ... again, I summon you. They denied me for a SEATBELT vio in my PV six or 7 years ago, so if you were to get one of those on a 34 or whatever...SQUARE ONE! I don't remember which or how many above posters @EatYourVeggies etc etc etc... are all apprehensive regarding SNI. PLUS, with your family being so important (as is mine!! God Bless 'em all...for sure...) You CAN NOT even answer a "mayday" regarding a wife or child even with Bluetooth, lest you be canned. Fact. Heard it from many.

I know you've gotten SO much.... great info here. AGAIN.. were I you, I'd still hold out for MAC ... or just TAKE the dam dog. It's not fun, it's not that bad... they have charging ports and... a restroom. You can bring snacks. I took one, when I went to T/A.... didn't wanna drive 1,200 either.

Regarding Werner, I have no bones with them, at all. They're probably looking at setting you up with a "Dollar" something account, so be prepared. If you are TOTALLY confident in your backing, and your ability to off-load product, granted totes and dollies, so be it. You are 20 plus years younger than me, so it's do-able~!

Wife and I go to the Dollar General in Lexington, Ohio (you can Google Map it bcz I can't get it to copy and paste here...) and she feels so bad for the driver, she gets out and helps direct traffic, ask employees to move cars, etc. (There's some odd left/right turn curb coming off 42 that I swear was put there at the behest of management, to impede drivers~!) This is when we show up in our PV.

Could I do it? The getting set up and in, yeah, probably..... I'd hope so....... would I? Nope.
Too many opportunities for adverse incidents. (Plus, nope to the unloading!)

Bro, I'm not trying to rain on your parade... whatsoever. That's "probably" what Werner wants you to do. If it's not, Mea Culpa.

As I've said before, I'd bite the Mac bullet, for a minute.

Keep me posted; and I'll add other tags as I look them up, or remember them! I just remember @EatYourVeggies because my wife says that EVERY DANG DAY~!!! Not ONE forgotten! ;)

@Suspect Zero !! How could I forget THAT name?!? Won't again, LoL! Those were the most comprehensive posts, and Pablo's.....

    Best to ya, bro.

Correction: I don't mean Werner wants to impede you in any way; just that such is what they probably want you to run. It's a werner guy here at our DG. He's only been here 2 months; surprised when we still see him.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Best of luck, I know things are very tough in some locals.

Obviously, if there was really a truck driver shortage, your issue would not be an issue. In some locals it is not, but when your talking nationwide carriers that can come up with some BS excuses on not to hire a guy, you know their is some lie being told about this driver shortage. Just feel the need to point that out to some that have been told different.

This driver shortage lie is just one thing that is a controversy around here and many can't get over the fact that it is nothing but a tool used to sell truck driver training.

I hear ya buddy. Personally I'm leaning towards McElroy, just hate to wait until the first. At least if it's in Ennis, that's only an hour and a half from me. It's just convenient (entitled huh?) lol The situation regarding SNI, and the strictness of the phone calls deal is a bit worrying to me. I don't need to be on my phone 24/7, but if my wife needs to relay some type of emergency info then I'd like to be able to communicate with her, not to mention if my mom or wife needs to let me know something about my dads serious condition. Regarding Werner, I doubt I go that route. Speaking of the family dollar account, there's one about 3 blocks from my house. On my way home earlier I watched one of those Werner trucks back in. Absolutely asinine the way there is no realistic way of getting in. He made it work, but it wasn't easy.

I got a call from that wedge trailer place that I mentioned a few days ago, (Universal Freight Services) something along those lines. It's 40 cpm but mostly local runs with the occasional run to New Mexico etc. Home every night, but I'm not quite sure how I'd make a livable wage off of that if I'm not going that far from the yard daily. At worst, I might just be sitting on my ### until the 1st.
