I delivered inside of Atlanta one time and nobody harassed me. I felt weird bypassing the "must use 285 signs." I felt like an outlaw.

Schneider's Atlanta terminal is located inside the I-285 loop. :)

I did it once years ago because was curious. It was worse than 285 and took longer. Never again

There is only one way to make it through ATL without losing your mind. Watch traffic/Google carefully and go whichever way is fastest!

I've gone through this middle a few times. And I'd do it again tomorrow but I'm so much happier just steering way clear of Atlanta.

Not to be pedantic, but it's been like that for 40-some years and by now you'd think that EVERYBODY knew you couldn't go through Atlanta (or D.C., for that matter). But, as a rookie I once went to the 'wrong tunnel' in Baltimore, and got a nasty little fine. Also once forgot to remove my radar director when entering VA, but that was a different time and a different fine....

In 24 years trucking I always drove I-75 right through the middle of Atlanta on trips to and from Florida that originated in Tennessee. Never got pulled over. It isn't enforced, until there's an accident, which is something out of your control - so beware. I usually strolled thru there around midnight to 5am when traffic was light. As far as left lane violations just dont get caught lol. On the eastern side of the 285 loop they seem to be more strict about that than anywhere else.
