ATS Lease Program?

Regarding maintenance on a lease truck.

-Do they insist you have regular services done in certain places?

-What do they recommend for oil change/grease intervals?

-Being a lease truck, are they still responsible for the cost, or does that fall on the L/O?

 

They do insist you have regular services, you can have it done anywhere you want. ATS will give you a discount if done at one of their facilities.

They told us and I have forgotten. I think it is every 20K, you can slide up to 30K and then they will insist.

Just as if you lease a car, you are responsible for the maintenance.

 

Thanks! I start orientation 5/18 to be a L/O. Given my experience, they hired me as a class 2 driver, so hopefully I can get on the Wind Energy stuff pretty quick!

 

Good luck. You are still going to have to take a test for Class 2. I can't help you with it as I am, only, class 4. I would suggest, when you get to the hotel, as every driver you see and get a heads up on it. I don't think you will have to test until Friday, so you will have all week to prepare.

 

Thanks again! I've hauled lots of blades, but not on the trailers ATS uses, so yeah, I'm pretty much starting from zero as far as their methods...

 

The test will consist of laws and routing. They have had drivers screw up before and those routes are the ones they test you on. Your MCRA will not help much, I'm told. You need to get the folding state maps with more detail.

 

Okay, first, which types of laws? Curfews and such? And I wonder what type of routing questions there will be also. MCRA? I know I know what that is, but the acronym escapes me...

 

Routes, weights, lengths, width, hours you can legally run, which varies state to state, securement, escorts, all the stuff you need to know to deliver your load safely and legally. MCRA = Motor Carriers Road Atlas. I am told this will not get the job done, you will need additional, more detailed maps.

We were given several books with most of this information. You will have to be able to look it up and apply it. I don't know if the test is open book or not. I assume it would be, but I don't know for sure.

 

I certainly hope it is open book. Not that I'm a moron or anything, but it's take a real super genius to memorize the regs for even just travel time for every state. And believe me, I've seen some of the guys ATS has on Wind stuff, and I have yet to see the first super genius.

There is a book that you can get at most truck stops that will detail oversize and width laws in each state. i had to get one last week have been hauling 12' x 20' tanks to ND indian reservation. Things like in OK City from 7-9 and 2:30 to 6:30 you can not move. Must park or wait outside county limits until curfew is over. Also has each states official timetables to determine when you must shut down for evening. I got mine at pilot/Bosselman's in Grand Island, NE. Cost about $15.00. Another pain in the arse, but if you get busted they can shut you down and nulify your permits and then your company has to go through BS to redo them. Nothing in there that you can't handle. You will be OK.
