I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say, "the point they stop getting paid for the driver", Skip.
But the answer to your question, "why would they care" is they don't.
Well, actually they do care. They care if they don't have an empty driver's seat available for the next batch of graduates they've just trained to be Big truck truck drivers.

You see, ........ at this time there is no shortage of applicants for the job. Many apply out of desperation rather than any desire. ANYthing that'll pay the bills.
They take advantage of "free"? training in exchange for providing cheap labor for a year or so. If they burn out early, they owe for their training. If they make it for the time frame, they're up for pay raises, --- not popular with the bean counters. Better to give 'em ample reason not to hang around and take up a Big truck that they want to put another graduate into. Actually, there are several Big truck truckin' companies that train wannaBees for a profit that depend on a high turn over rate to keep the cash flowin', --- even if the freight ain't.
Would you believe one in particular prefers a 210% turn over rate?
    It's twue!

1.) I was referring to some companies pay recruiters to only get drivers into orientation and some companies not only pay that seat filler amount but also, pay for drivers that actually end up as employees, and some pay recruiters a small bonus if the driver stays 90 days, 6 mos, or a year; that's all.

2.) I agree; they only care about a driver till they (Recruiter) stop receiving money for the driver being there.

they give the drivers who make more per mile less miles.

as you get raises, they give you less miles. and they let the rookies run all of the miles.
