regarding the posting from:FastFossil
what you described is actually nothing new. many "driver-trainers" are simply not that at all, but "regualr" driver's who were told by the company they had to do this for them, to help them out.
a good driver-trainer would not have gone "team driving" that same day. a good driver-trainer would not have gone into the sleeper so soon, he would have had you do as much driving as possible, then the truck would have been parked, and each of you would have crawled into your own bunks for a 10 hour break.
when a good driver-trainer feels comfortable with some of your driving skills, he will crawl into the bunk, but leave the curtain open.......
when a good driver-trainer feels comfortable enough with your skills, he will jump into the bunk and now close the curtain.............
believe it or not, by this action of fully closing the curtain, you have gotten the highest "un-said" compliment.........that he trust's his life with you....
that so-called driver-trainer was only interested in his bottom dollar pay check, the more miles the truck runs, the more money he earns.
basically, there's nothing you can do about being fired. just go on with your life, fill out applications, explain in detail when asked what happened. you may have had 50 years of driving experience, but as you said, you're a rookie driver at 65 years of age. statistically speaking, as a rookie you are still at high risk of an accident, and well, you proved that right.
look around for something else, don't give up just yet, as something wil come along. you do however want to contact DAC Services at 800-381-0645 and obtain a DAC report on yourself. it may cost you about $8.50 for this report, but its well worth it. this report will have any comments made about you by your former employers, and you can rebuttle those comments. also, if at any time a company goes out of business, you can have that info exsponged from the DAC records as they would no longer be in busines to furthur harm you. i know, i have had this done several years ago. -
Rerun...thanks for the reply
I am making applications and explaining my situation in detail when allowed.
I agree that I had the accidents and that I am responsible for my actions, I've never worked any other way...this is also the first time I have ever been fired so that was also a new experience, but hey, I guess I earned that also.
My point was that I was not properly trained and had accidents in the specific areas that I was NOT trained in, which was backing, parking, etc. I did set up cones and practiced in an empty parking lot on my first home time, which helped....any more advice is appreciated and I am going to call DAC, thanks for including the phone number...

FastFossil, my comment/statement of:...
"you may have had 50 years of driving experience, but as you said, you're a rookie driver at 65 years of age. statistically speaking, as a rookie you are still at high risk of an accident, and well, you proved that right.
was not to infer that you do not accept responsibility, but to merely point out the statistics involved with "rookie" drivers, whether they be first time auto/motorcycle/truck/snowmobile, drivers etc. the chances are incredibly high when a person is "new" to these things. and again, the odds of an accident go up as we get more experience and become complacent (unconcerned) about our "everyday activity". i do know you did not take my statement out of context, but others here might not have viewed it that way, so my explaination was due.
i would just continue the driving you are doing now, maybe when you get your DAC report, compile a brief description of what ensued at the other carrier, and when you apply for another job, include a photo copy of the DAC report, and staple your explaination to it. be sure however, to call DAC after you looked over your report, and add a rebuttle to it ASAP. this will help you for when a prospective employer does the background checks.
in closing, no one here can say they never had any type of fender-bender that was either reported or "kept secret". i think we are all guilty of something. its how it's handled afterwards. some trucking company will eventually hire you, as now you have learned from your experiences. its the major "catastrophic" accidents that will kill off any chances of a decent job, the little piddly benders happen everyday with no serious consequences.
best of luck, you'll do fine, if not today, then certainly real soon. don't give up just yet.......... -
glad this post died

This thread is hilarious. Telling poorly trained drivers to stay off the road is like telling a teenager not to speed.
As for those who aren't trained, don't complain. How hard would it be to ask questions and watch? Yeah your trainer might suck, yeah he may be an ###; but you need to be able to read people too. You may have to ask your trainer nicely, and passively. Or you may have to take control and use colorful metaphors to get his attention.
I'm not attacking anyone personally, but don't complain about training. It's like high school, you get what you put into it. And safety is the main thing. No one should have to explain to anyone why you can't run double nickels on a snow covered road with zero visibility. Just an example.
Maybe I am insane for thinking this way. Maybe I just have common sense. Oh well. I love kittens. -
