Research Mack engines wrt emissions in the mid 2000 timeframe. Some years had issues. I don't recall if that engine model year was a problem child.

Not to mention they probably took the truck on a trade in, so they probably tack on 10-15% for profit on the sale.

    Jestrada0404 and JimmyWells Thank this.

Look for owners selling a truck that have a reason to sell other than money issues.

Sudden death or divorce. Loss of license...DWI..
    Good luck

Too new for my tastes. I prefer 99 and back with an engine that easy to get parts for like one of the big three (Cummins, CAT, Detroit).

    Auctions are auctions .
I live close to south city Nebraska home of Taylor Martin whom are good people but ......
Auctions tend to be where the cull cattle of trucks and trailers go ...hamburger.

Auctions are high risk. Sure, I've bought plenty of stuff at auctions but I know what I'm getting into.
Very often, people will send a problem truck to auction so they won't have the uncomfortable experience of having to lie about the problems and you can't come back on them. Also, especially live auctions, the person bidding against you is often the owner.

I have purchased equipment and land at auctions in the past with good experiences. One thing I see now is within the last 10 years or so many of them now have online bidding allowing more people to sit home and drive the price up. Back when you actually had to drive a good distance if you were to attend it helped separate the serious folks from the dreamers and better deals could be had.
