I never saw them set up that way. My minds eye was seeing trailers sliding down the road. Thanks guys for the education that they only release with the brakes set.

the way the system is set up. You have a switch on the dash that you pull or flip (volvo has a slide lock you must move before you can flip it) IF the trucks body computer see the brakes set (red park light) then it allows a servo to supply air to unlock the jaw (air ram under the hitch)... if you don't have the brakes set (red light) the computer WILL NOT allow it to work..Last edited: Mar 17, 2021

Mine works almost like that the brakes need to be set in order for the switch to work. When you push the switch it energizes the solinoid beside the transmission and sends air to the piston under the 5th wheel. There is also another valve on the frame near the rear end and I don't know what it does...mjd4277 Thanks this.

Marten’s fleet has them as well. On the Freightliner it’s a pull handle release on the KW & Petes it’s a switch.Last edited: Mar 22, 2021

Well I finally figured it out i had 2 problems. The first problem was the 2 way plastic valve at the solinoids by the transmission was installed upside down when the mechanic did the clutch and rear structure. The 2 nd problem was the inversion valve that is on the frame in back by the fith wheel that was corroded and stuck.. I replaced that valve and reversed the check valve and it works
mjd4277 and BoxCarKidd Thank this.
