"One of the 39,000lb steel coils"

    How many did he have??

Also, if slamming on the brakes caused it to come loose, might want to look into something a little stronger than a 1" strap.

I'm not in flat bedding, and not sure how many or what kind of tie-downs this driver had. But I've heard that coils are the most dangerous loads (for the driver) to haul. I am sure I would've had extra chains for the coil behind the cab at least.

when loaded like that they are called suicide rolls for a reason. You can chain & block the hell out of them and they can still cause issues in instant stops.

Sounds like a legitimate reason to go after the truck manufacture as well as the manufacture of the tech that operates the braking assist.

I didnt see many / any chains hanging off the trailer. If he had used chains and they broke, they should be hanging off the sides.

DOT needs to start peeking under tarps occasionally. I deliver to lumber yards and sometimes a local curtain side straight truck opens his curtains and has next to nothing strapped.

Not to make an excuse for the guy but hard to have chains hanging off the sides of the trailer when its a covered wagon like that with side boards and all as the load securement points would be inside the side boards would they not?

Bud A. and kemosabi49 Thank this.
