You bring up an interesting point. As far as I know, the driving test is in a truck with a manualT. So any student, regardless of whether they go to a company or state/private school, will need to first learn to shift. Unless the big outfits use their lobbyists, PAC's, clout and bribes to get autoT's allowed on the driving test?
What I have not read anything on is the time window that it will take to phase out manualT's. My guess (emphasis added: guess) is 15-25 years. And, yes, I agree that NOT ALL manuals will disappear, but they will certainly be the minority in time. -
You'd be surprised how many drivers here are college educated, and there are some with master's degrees, so if there is any hating going on, it isn't because of your background.
-
Total, complete, 100%, no I agree.
OK, got it. -
Total, 100%, no, I agree with you. But I think in time the standard (most common) transmission will be the autoT. Manuals will be relagated to certain soecific types of uses.
Who knows, maybe in time shifting will be an endorsement like HazMat, Doubles, etc. But that is speculation at best. -
Kind of the opposite of an automatic shift manual, a manual shift automatic.
As far as leaving it in gear, isn't that what we've done with autos since they were invented? -
If your truck is a volvo, an auto shift already is standard.
-
No KW. I would love to try out a Volvo. You?
-
I understand how people find the benefit of driving an auto, but I enjoy driving a 13 speed. Shifting is one of the things I find pleasurable in driving. Even in traffic.
-
Sure, I get that, to each his own. This is more of a thread on the likely hood that in time autoT's will be the norm.
