The butterfly hood gives enough access for maintenance like changing belts and filters when opened, but there are only 4 screws that hold the whole hood on. 2 in the front by the radiator and 2 in the back by the shroud. Its much easier to lift the hood off if you were running the overhead or something. The fenders themselves also are held on I believe by 2 bolts in the front and 3 in the back, but these were not made to be readily removed and I'm sure you would have to cut the bolts. Many of these trucks were made with a belly pan to protect the oil pan. Also not made to be easily removed, but can be if needed to drop the pan. The belly pan, depending on the motor, may go far enough back to be below the oil drain plug.

The tilt hood Autocars were a completely different design and the inner frame rails extended farther than the outer rails. The radiator stayed in place when they were tilted. I don't think there would be any way to modify a butterfly hood to tilt because of the radiator.

We have several autocars in west little rock not too many years ago. I drove two of them. 12 yard concrete mixers. Always heavy.

I don't recall doing a #### thing to these things other than checking oil and wadder (Sorry Jersey...) every morning. Everything worked on them. Until one idiot rolled one of the two years later.

We had our own shop. But these trucks simply don't break. Much. Not like some of the newer ones that have to have a tow when a toggle or something snaps off. //sarcasm.

Hey I don't know if any of you are still active on here, but I came across this searching the interwebs for resources on Autocars. I'm trying to unload my grandfathers Autocar that has been sitting in his garage for the last two decades. I don't even know where to start. Maybe one of you has some resources I can look into or anyone local in Minnesota I could reach out to come take a look at it to either a) get it up and running and drive it off the property or b) wants to restore or part it out. Thanks for any help you can offer.

OLDSKOOLERnWV and Dino soar Thank this.

You might have better luck starting your own thread with the trucks details. @SmallPackage @OLDSKOOLERnWV may know some folks looking for a autocar..

Great idea, might be more useful than scouring existing threads. Good to know this forum is alive, and thank you @062 for linking up potential help, much appreciated. Still gathering details and pics but will have some more to offer this weekend.

What model is it? One very desirable is the AT64F like this one I drove back in the 90’s. There is a FB page for Autocar trucks, as well as Vintage semi trucks, both good resources.....

Ya know, as long as I know it's going to go to somewhere it would be appreciated, that's all I ask. If we can get something to help offset the cost of the garage demo then even better. I can't imaging it's a total loss, at least not yet.
