Automatic Chains

    That looks like they were horribly out of adjustment or installed wrong. The chain wheel is supposed to touch the tire very close to the tread, not half way up the side wall.

    Lot of guy in PNW tried them & decided not worth it. When they freeze to ground & you take back off they rip apart.

    Even with auto chains and auto socks, you still have to carry regular chains. Auto Sock are nice, but, you need to run in snow to keep them cool and intact, they will self destruct pretty fast on dry pavement or slush/wet.

    If you have auto chains, why would you have to carry regular chains. Those that I knew that invested in them did so for the reason they didn't have to carry chains, and had no plan to use them anyway.
    nearly every one I knew that bought them had fenders low enough to th tires, it would have been impossible to throw a set of chains on at all.

    No, you don't need to carry regular chains if you have auto chains or socks. They are both legal in all 50 states. I ran with auto chains for 2 years and passed every chain check point with no questions asked. I currently have a set of socks on board, and same with them, no problems.
