Even though I drive an Auto company truck.
If I were buying my own I would buy a standard.

If the wife wasn't so #### lazy my next car would be a manual also.
They will continue to be around for some time to come.

From you truckers with more experience with manual trans, do manuals perform better overall than automatics? Or is it just a matter of preference between the 2 types of transmission?

Manuals will be around for a long time to come. In my view that is not the question. I am old enough to remember most pickups had 3 speed on the column transmissions. Today most pickups have automatics. In the early days the automatic transmissions had some problems, but the technology got better. There will always be those that had rather drive a manual I am one of them. Some fleets have went back to manuals I know this. However I think the technology will one day produce an even better unit then the current X Y transmissions available today. Get used to it folks that day is coming.

    Hmmmm.
    1983 F250... Manual
    1987 Toyota 4 Runner... Manual
    1990 Honda Civic... Manual

No special reason but all of my vehicles have manual transmissions and have had for years. Heck, I even catch myself floating the gears in the Honda...... LOL Yes it actually does work. All of a sudden I am in a new gear and then realize that I never touched the clutch. Besides that.....

I had an Isuzu small pickup and did the same. 4-speed manual and I floated the gears without thinking about it.

I guess you are still at home with manual steering, spring ride rear suspensions, no A/C, how about steel wheels. Lol

Your fine. All companies are going to automatics for a number of reasons. Pretty soon only owner ops will have manual transmissions.

    I have a spring
I do have a spring ride spoke wheel trailer and I keep it because it's heavy duty and simple.
