I think it's inexcusable for an OTR truck to not have a manual mode. I can understand a local P and D or delivery driver not needing one but an OTR driver will find the manual mode extremely useful.

That was another drawback I forgot to mention. It can be downright dangerous making turns in city traffic in an automatic.

Just select a higher starting gear. Or in an I Shift, hit power mode.

The way you guys talk about that I Shift makes me wish we had them in our auto trucks. I can't stand stomping on the gas, and...nothing.

    A higher gear then DRIVE??????

You can't make an auto start off in anything higher then 1.

That's not true in the ones I have to drive occasionally. Most of ours start off in 2, and will skip gears if your foot is on the floor and the truck is light. But you can force it to start in 3 or whatever.

Couple others here on TTR who feel the same as you. I do not share your enthusiasm.

I prefer to stay with what I know and am comfortable with.

I sure can. It depends on the load. Empty it will sometimes let you start off in 5th.

Why wouldn't you log your pee stop? That's an extra 15 minutes you can run down the road.

Because when you are done for the day, you can "back up" your logbook showing you got done earlier, thus allowing you to get back on the road sooner if you need to. A few of those situations really add up, especially in slow trucks that can't make up the time. If the math works out, on paper you could show stopping, say, an hour earlier and only have to take 9 off. It's just about flexibility.

Before the 14-hour "window", when true split sleeper time was allowed (which was way before elogs), there was tons of flexibility if you needed it.
