Sorry. IMO, anyone that needs an auto to concentrate on his surroundings isn't a truck driver yet.
You asked who preferred what trans and why. You didn't like the answer. Tough. Goodnight. I'm not feeding anymore trolls tonight.

That was my mistake then. I believe all truckers should learn manual. There's no reason not too. In IL they only teach manuals in school. I feel bad for the ones that never drove a manual. Eventually they'll have to and then what will happen. That would suck severely.

I don't think I could do a 90 without feathering if I'm being honest. But 90% of 45's no feathering needed.
I have to admit that 90's with an AMT can be tricky until you get used to it. -
I found just backing an AMT in a straight line up to the loading ramp challenging enough the first time. The throttle in those Cat CT660's is as or more sensitive than an ISX. I suppose with time a guy gets used to it though. The regular driver on that truck has it figured out and as pretty smooth with it.ChicagoDave Thanks this.

Your correct that I asked for opinions but your opinion included disrespect to anyone who doesn't think exactly like you. There's a difference between "I don't like AMT's because" and "Who ever uses AMT's isn't a trucker and is a disgrace". See what I'm saying? I'm not mad or upset. Happy trucking.

Why do schools have manuals ? when you graduate your just gonna be put in a auto
-
Depends where you go. I grew up around trucks and wrenched on trucks and I had never even seen an auto truck until about 6 months ago.
-
Some companies (Knight for example) will choose to order an Eaton 9 speed convertible transmission that can be made into a 13 speed with adding the splitter air lines and 13 speed knob because that will net a higher resale value than an automatic.
-
Look on your trucks data plate on the door. If you have a 9 speed and the data plate lists the transmission as an RTOC-XX09A, you have a 13 speed gearbox without the splitter being hooked up.
-
They also had those convertible 9 speeds with "Top 2" auto shifting where the transmission shifted between 8hi and 8lo automatically. Don't think those were as popular.
