Ever driven a manual at all? Did you learn to drive in a auto? If this is the case it is more than just getting in a " getting it down". I learned to drive back when I was about 12 or so in a 52 GMC with 3 on the tree and a steering wheel about 2' across. I took my drivers test to get my license in that truck and parallel parked it too. So I would suggest if yoiu have never driven a manual them go rent one and learn to drive it, makes it a little easier when you move up to a big truck.

    allnite Thanks this.

I think every state should be that way. My personal feeling is that if you cannot or will not learn to shift gears, you should not be a truck driver.

UNDERSTATEMENT.FOREGONE CONCLUSION. WELL STATED.ok i'll cease w/the caps but hopefully jakshouse copies that I agree w/his post. Was that 3 speed on the tree? My dad left me a 1965 Ford F100 that also has the 2' steering wheel(I reckon because there is no power steering) as well as the 3 on the tree transmission. He ordered that truck and it is what i learned to drive and shift.
They just don't make'em like that anymore huh.Maybe i should rent it out to those needing to get shifting down pat.
EDITED to add: ok.I re-read your post and yes it was a 3 on the tree.I am slipping.

I don't know about anyone else but i personally wouldn't want to drive an auto...i haven't heard alot of good things about them...My grandaddy taught me how to drive a rig a long time ago and if he could see how things have gone he would roll over

I believe here in Ontario, Canada, that you must take a manual in to get your license.

Auto shift is a 10 speed auto with a clutch. Only need clutch for start or stop.
