According to Transport Topics (6/18/07), Averitt Express plans to convert all 2,500 sleepers to automated mechanical computerized transmissions. Automated transmissions have an approximate $7,000 up-charge for each new vehicle, but are worth $4,400 on trade-in.

U.S. Xpress Enterprises is the largest firm to have converted its entire fleet to automatics -- some 7,400 trucks.

Other fleets using automatics include Bison Trucking (Winnipeg), Robert Transport (Montreal), Royal Freight (Parr, TX), Brankle Brothers Express (Marion, IN), MW Trucking (Kaukauma, WI), and Bordertown Transportation (El Paso).
