Tri an I shift. Night and day difference, no even in the same ballpark. I avoided the I shift because I had driven an old auto years ago, a friend convinced me to tri the I shift, I actually drove it just so I could say I told you so, and it was amazing.

I have an auto in my car, dont want one in my truck. I would rather shift than be shifted.

I assume you are hauling heavy stuff with that much power and that many gears. I have not used an I-Shift in a heavy haul setting which they have one available for. So I am not able to have an opinion on that part.

I am not lazy and I like to work smarter not harder. I spend my time fidgeting with cruise speeds for up and down hill, cruise brake speeds and to figure out how to use the ECO-Roll feature a lot without getting to fast. I like to keep myself entertained with the fuel mileage game. Over the last three weeks I have averaged between 7.8 and 9.0mpg running between WA and CA. Right now I am coming back to WA and clinging on to the 8.2mpg at 74,000lbs. Also I do not baby the truck in the hills. It has 500hp and I like to use them too.

does the autos go up hills decent with a heavy load?
I know with my volvo when I have 40k load im going up some of these mountains at 25mph in 5th gear

I would drive an auto for a day just to see how I liked it, I would never just go buy one though, have to drive for at least a week to see.

You would jump to drive one if the money was right. They're not bad at all. Have to stay ahead of them in mountains but that's true for all.

I know that people aren't always "honest" about the years of exp. they list. But does anyone else find it odd that the guys that are hating on the auto's are all listing just a couple of years exp. and all of the guys liking the autos have several years under their belt? :biggrin_25523:

Nope, dont like the auto, I've driven them. I dont chutch except to get the truck rolling so shifting is easy and fun. Like my motorcycles, I like shifting cause it's fun. But for some reason I perfer an auto in my car.

Our newer Macks have Allison 6 speed full automatics (not auto shift) and I like them.
We roll 104,500lbs (sometimes more, shhhhh! grins) and they do just fine, in fact they go like stink from stoplights leaving guys shifting gears way behind.
One thing I really like being a local driver in a daycab is when I get caught in heavy stop and go traffic I don't have to keep using a clutch.
These trucks also have a Telma electric brake set up and disc brakes on the tractor as well as an engine brake so downhills are a breeze as well.
Wish I was driving one daily, had one on nightshift for a while but when I moved to days I got and older truck with the Eaton 10 speed autoshift.
The 10speed AS is a piece of junk as far as I'm concerned, we have a bunch of them and I've driven quite a few, every one I've been in was crap in my book.

    Scania man Thanks this.
