The main drawback I see for the Allison is that it is rated at a GCW of 80,000

Not good when I run 100k to 136k.

That is why they have other offerings for automatics. Most people here don't do heavy haul, so I was only discussing the TC10. That isn't the only thing they do. They set the standard for automatic transmissions in heavy haul. It is because they know heavy haul real well, I wouldn't mind having their TC10 in a regular tractor trailer pulling a box or a flat. That same technology they have developed over the years would be in there.

See if they can't handle heavy haul in this video. Do you gross 800,000 lb occasionally and pull that gross up and down 8% grades? These guys do and they use Allisons.....

A friend of mine drives a new Scania r730hp with the tc10, I must say I'm very impressed, he does heavy haul work so fuel figures are useless to compare but it's a great gearbox, I know it's a 730 hp truck but the gearbox actually seems to give it extra punch, impressive!

The Army has been using Allison's for years, in every truck from 2.5 ton on up to the HET's (Heavy Equipment Transporters) that can transport cargo weighing up to 70 tons. I have operated an Oshkosh HEMTT 8 wheel drive cargo truck equipped with an Allison, that transmission is #### near indestructible!

about that , company from my city have 2x volvo fh16 600 (612hp) 8x4 with allison 4700 transmission with 7speeds , equipped with big hub reduction axles, ratio 7.21:1 rated for 295t(650 000lbs).... except it they have fleet of single drive 420-460-500hp trucks, 612hp 6x4 and 750hp 8x4

and those two with allison are reason why they stop to buy from volvo , and go back to MAN( recently bought 5 new)

-two two with allison shift too slow,
-they refuse to shift , causing they have to restart several times uphill ,
-also it easy lost traction on steep windmill roads , (with 130 000kg, 286500lbs)
-gaps between gears are too big causing jerks after shift uncontinuous power flow,
-or otherwise have to use torque converter which heats since there is no way to cool that, also transmission is too weak for engine 2500vs 2800nm

-overall tranmission ratio is too small it goes 20kmh slower at same rpm than normal trucks for heavy haulage with 12speed AMT+torque converter
    -it is expensive

Yes , one of the crane companies this side have a 2013 Volvo FH16 with a new Allison but not sure if its the TC10 (250t rating). Seems to be doing well.My problem Allison is based on old ones (Old models with many miles) that are not shifting well. They had the tendency to hunt when on a climb in OTR application. They were also heavy on the drive line as they would surge on change and shock load the driveling.I have been watching the TC 10 since its introduction and watched the videos Cowpie posted long time ago.The issue is that they are sales videos and the comparison with a AMT was designed to make the AMT look bad.I have seen the I shift pull 250t on an incline from standstill with out an issue. I am interested to see how the TC10 does in the real world.
I know the 600t rated Nicolas Tectomas 900-1000hp CAT powered 3412 used here on heavy haul have Dana Spicer 8 speed auto. The oldest ones are 9 years old and nearly all problems have been transmission/torque converter related.

i was comparing different models from Allison and for what i think is normal and suitable for normal truck like fh, there is no stronger gearbox than 4700 , those 5 series are already about 1000kg heavy and probably ( i was not looking) they cant fit normal engine and driveshaft

i say last week somewhere that i dont like american way of advertising , and agree here with you this kind of addvertising can only turn me to not buy their product since they try to fake video and show other product bad
