Just had a presentation today by a Werner recruiter who said autos get better fuel economy than a manual. Anybody with more experience than myself care to comment, I know you can’t believe most of what recruiters say.

For your average "driver" Werner employs then yeah, they do get better fuel mileage.
Same goes for governed at 65 with 400 horse if you're lucky

Yes its true. In our fleet, the autos get about 1mpg better than the standards. It has me a bit perplexed because in 12th gear the autos in our fleet do 1475rpm at 68mph. My truck, in 10th, does 1425 at 68.

Well with the newer versions of engine and transmission there is a very valid argument for the auto transmission getting great fuel economy i'm from the old school and still think a manual will get better mileage however i think it'd only be by a very small amount

I’ll judge for myself once I start driving.

you will save little money when auto trans is new . after 400k miles you will start to pay for tow and repairs(10x more than you saved on fuel) . At 700k miles you will deeply regret for your purchase. But if you know how to diagnose and fix them then you may survive... remember 1 out of 10 shops will take a look on it if you will have a problem...

It was explained to me by the dealer. That the megas spend millions every year researching fuel economy. Thus. The specs on their trucks. And phasing out manuals for autos.

I remember when England started getting trailers with fins on the back. They had banners that something about test trailer for better fuel economy.

But you have to drive both to be able to judge. And you have to drive the same trucks pulling the same loads over the same areas.

For a study to be valid, you can only change on variable at a time to ensure that is the thing that altered the outcome of the study.
