It's not if it has the pedal or not - it's the electronics that's causing the upset in most cases. There's a separate ECM that needs communication with the main ECM and with the control module. There's like a mile of wiring and endless connetors. With the stuff that they put on the roadways in winter all of those deteriorate with time. It's an ok system if the truck is 0-4 years old. This is when the large fleets have them. Then they safely offload the ageing problems to retail buyers. I experimented with it, to my detriment. Would not repeat this mistake again.
Here's the truck. [image]http://www.truckpaper.com/images/Truck/fullsize/87252974.jpg[/image] If it is a costly change-over, I'll pass. I definetely want a manual. It doesn't look a deal will be made anyway because we are a mile away on price, and nobody will budge.
Yeah, I'm sure. Like I said, I don't see the deal happening at this point. He wants a premium buck, and I fully understand, but I also have to expect some unseen repairs on a 10 year old truck. We all know what a few dried up seals in the wrong places can cost.
George! Look for good technitian who'll do ECM reprogramming for you. There are some hidden traps. I think you are experiensed mechanic and you'll do all "hardware" stuff well. I did tranny conversions, tranny swaps, engine swaps on US and EU trucks. I used to drop European engines in US trucks and when you'll start I can help you with my experience! when you'll start install RANGE BEHEVIOR VALVE to prevent accidental transmission damage shifting range laver down at high speed. Some guys who convert trucks use to forget about this and we have trashed trannies.
I had an ultra shift 10 speed removed and a 13 put back in. Had to wire a separate switch for the starter. The ecm needed a tweak with the gear ratio (got over speed code) Had to find clutch linkage. Total cost was 4500. Worth every penny
Well, if we can agree on a price, the first thing I will do is drop tranny and install a manual. I'm hoping it works out.
