This is similar to what I use. The Honda will start this unit with no problem:

I am sure if you give them a jingle... I would hazard a guess somewhere in the $1500-$2000 range installed. A roof mount rough neck goes for about that.
Opus Thanks this. -
Wouldn't be that hard of an install. Looks like 2000 more BTUs than the comfort pro.

How loud is the Honda compared to a reefer?
-
The difference is like comparing a dragster to a Lexus. People talking outside next to my truck are louder than the Honda.
If another truck is idling within 40ft of me,. I can stand outside next to the Honda and not hear it over the other truck that might be 3 or 4 spaces away. Its not like the generators you see made for construction and contractors. You really have to hear one to really understand how quiet and smooth it is. I was skeptical at first. Did not want to listen to a lawn mower all night. I was sold as soon as I heard this thing run.

Cool. I've seen your setup in other threads. I won't have a truck of my own any time soon but that setup looks like something I could easily do and not alter the truck in a major way. Im parked next to a reefer and it's loud as hell.
-
Oh parksmart. I see the praise.
Let's talk about the downsides.
It will drain both truck and it's own batteries until truck batteries are at 12.4 and then use only its own. At this point everything in the truck dies and there's no turning on a light unless you start the truck.
It will drain all batteries and shut off after 11-12 hrs. At this point you should be driving! But what about a 34? Idling it is.
Add to that a company truck that has idle restrictions based on ambient temperature and all of a sudden every 34 is no longer fun and great. It's a constant fight to have power in the truck to do anything with.
To be very fair, I do like having it vs nothing at all. But I'd trade this thing in for a tripac in a heartbeat. Or hurst's ingenious setup. -
Has anybody but me awoke with fumes in your cab from APUs and red eyes and feel like you are sick.Has any study been done on these things causing health problems? The driver beside these things gets all the toxic fumes.I think their dangerous.I hope other drivers come forward ....you may be subjecting yourself to severe health problems and dont know it. The industry doesn't give a rip about drivers health and these APUs are dangerous.Their cud be serious lawsuits if some studies were to find I'm right. Something that sounds like a riding lawnmower all night ...fumes that smell like a riding lawnmower...and makes you feel sick...aint good for your health...but it saves the company money...thats the trade off.
