My average for the last 10 years has been in the 135,000 mile average. And that is with taking two weeks off a year, home every weekend and holiday and special family events. Not on a dedicated account type of thing, but do limit myself to 600 mile radius of the house. Being in a prime location for a lot of good freight moving back and forth helps. As is the case with real estate or business... it is all about location, location, location. Along with dealing with the right customers, which means usually being with a carrier that knows what they are doing and not trying to make decisions on the fly.

Yeah, been lucky, I guess. I started targeting carriers that fit more into the situation I am doing. Found one in '99 and moved to them. Thru some rather unfortunate occurrences, that carrier had to sell. I saw that one coming so jumped over the one I am at now, Fremont Contract Carriers, and it was a good move. Been here for 6.5 years.

The key is finding a carrier that has locked down some really good contracts with shippers/receivers and has very consistent freight that is not as affected by normal seasonal fluctuations in freight volume. I guess lining up this kind of thing requires some experience with how this stuff works, but it is not impossible for even newer drivers to work out if they keep their ear to the ground and pay attention to how things work in this business. Some are able to pull off similar situations on their own with their own truck(s), but I opted to not try and reinvent the wheel, as it were, and take advantage of the leg work by others.
