I lived next door to a guy that got 1.1 million out of a non egr isx. He said he could count the number of times on one hand that it had been over 1800rpm. I think it all depends on maintainance and the driver.

Well with all this inframing going on, don't overlook that Bull Gear! Anytime an inframe is going on, is probably the best time to also replace the bull gear. This outfit puts out some very good quality remanned bull gears at a fair price with a 2 year warranty. http://bullgears.com/index.html

Detroit recommends bull gear replace at ball park 750,000, as do many engine shops. If one is already tearing things apart on an inframe, just seems like a good time to get the bull gear done. Would be bad to have a new inframe and lose it all because the bull gear bit the dust 10,000 miles later.

I guess I really have no dog in this hunt. I have never opened up an engine for inframe or rebuild less than 1.25 million miles. Maybe just lucky. Only thing that broke that streak was a cam in an ISX at around 800,000. But it still didn't get an inframe. The Series 60 I have now, will get a remanned bull gear at 750,000 at least, even if it really doesn't need an inframe.

1997 Freightliner Classic Detroit 60 500 HP here....

1.5+ Million Miles and Never has been opened up..I may be opening it up soon.I will ''check'' the Bull Gear.If it is good,i will leave it alone. If it is bad i will then proceed to replace it..

I am just not sure i want to truck anymore. So i am trying to suck every last penny out of old betsy and save money..If i stay in trucking i will have to decide if i want to rebuild or buy a newer truck and sell this old girl.

I'd also replace the harmonic damper. Most manufacturers recommend replacement at 500,000, and when they do go bad you can't tell until they start breaking other components, such as the crank if you're unlucky. Another reason to start planning early, preventative maintenance items like this can become overwhelming if you not prepared for them, possibly leading you to cut corners that you will regret later.

Well, I'm sitting here with a 2006 Freightliner Century with a Series 60 Detroit with 1,189,192 on it. only time I've done work was the sleeves the injectors slide into had cracked and diesel was getting into the coolant (about 700k). Also, one injector went around 500-550k. I've had the truck for about 800k miles now. It still 'sounds' like it did when I first got it. No weird loping, whining, etc. that you hear with some of these older detroits when they're idling in the truck stops.

You did good considering pulling in British Columbia: imop is the toughest place for equipment in North America.

Ditto! One of the easiest and most cost effective preventative maintenance things one can do to their engine, yet it gets overlooked by the vast majority of people. Most folks who make their living working on and modifying heavy diesels are in agreement, as are the OEM's..... change out that crankshaft damper (also known as harmonic damper) at 500,000 miles. Simple procedure. I ALWAYS do the crankshaft damper at or before 500,000 miles. Well said eeb!

    And that's not all....

For about a year I even pulled Pneumatic Super B's around Vancouver and one trip a week to Kamloops or Kelowna. 140,000 in 2nd gear up the Smasher.

I inframed my 6NZ about a year and a half ago, at 1,028,000 miles. It had never been touched, 100% original parts inside. The bearings still looked great, and you could still see some cross-hatch in the liners. I blew a head gasket due to the CAT liner settling problem. It was blown out in #4, #5, and #6 was about to go, but it still ran great. It just had a little miss at idle. I delivered a load to Philly, and drove it back home, dropped my trailer at home, and bobtailed to the CAT shop in Erie... started pushing water as I pulled into the lot. Good timing.

How much will that cost to replace? A rough estimate.
